Hike in the Bovec Basin in Slovenia
We arrived in Slovenia yesterday, a new destination for both of us! We were immediately stunned by the landscape as we drove through the Julian Alpsover mountain passes.
Today we decided to discover more and go for a hike. Since we normally live below sea-level (Netherlands) we decide to take it easy for a first hike and discover the Bovec Basin!
From the town of Bovec you walk down to the airfield where you can see lots of paragliders land or skydivers take off in their planes. You then continue to the incredible soča river, which is amazing!
You follow the river, with its gorges, rapids and clear waters for most of the trip and that is nice because it is hot! You can take a nice refreshing dip in the water, but beware as it is a glacial river so the water is super cold!
You continue following the river until the Zmuklica springs, where water wells up from the depths below.
You turn around at the springs and cross both the soča and smaller koritnica river with very wobbly suspension bridges! Then for the final bit you head back through the fields to Bovec while looking at the amazing mountains around you!
The hike is about 12 km from the center of Bovec and will take you about 3 hours. For our untrained bodies enough for one day! I was pretty tired at the end haha, but it was also 37 degrees so the heat takes a lot of energy.
Here you see the little map we used, we did walk 32. Despite the map we still got lost a couple of times, it can be quite hard to find the correct route at points!
The majestic Sloveniaa!!! I really wished to visit there someday. Maannn, you're making me more eager to goo thereeee! HAHAHAHA.
