I have been spinning my head around this for like since last night. I am weighing how it will come across. So spin, spin, spin. And I ended with this instead.
Let us take a walk in the garden for a while, shall we? I have not been doing a lot of walking these days. I kept making excuses, but I think I may be just not enthused about seeing what is outside these days. Besides, it is hard to shoot around with masks and shield on. Back when I was still in the mood to take a walk, I grab my camera and sneak a five-minute (of course it is not just 5 minutes) walk around my office building and capture just any. If it is a quick decision to just walk around, my phone is enough. Most days, though, I will be in the fire escape stairwell watching the sun set through the window.
I like seeing flowers. They bring out the high-pitched “oohs” in me and all the other feels that brings a smile from my eyes to my heart (But because I am a rather reserved and inexpressive person, you will not hear me squeal). The common ones I see retracing my steps from the parking lot to the office back before when we were still going to the office, are Santans (dear me! I had to really check if I spelled this correctly. I have been seeing this my whole life and I never really bothered looking it up) or Ixora (did not know this until today o’clock either and yet I am not hundred per cent sure). Those flowers that we used to play with when we were kids. We do it by gently pulling out the thin strip inside the flower to “drink” the nectar. It would have been cool if I have a picture of that. Noting to self when I finally get myself to walk around. I do not know a lot of flowers though. I mean their names. I only know when I ask and when I read labels then forget again somehow.
There are also flowers from my childhood days like Gumamela which we use to add to our tub of soapy water to create bubbles.
Back to the office area, there is this portion in our office park where I call the “cherry blossom” lane. They are of course NOT cherry blossoms. These blooming trees were planted lined up in a short pathway, so all the falling leaves and flowers pile up on the walkway.
I never really got the name of the tree or the flower but it has this season for when Its leaves will slowly dry out, fall off with some of the flowers and some flowers will remain attached to the dried branches.
I got fascinated with the Blue Ternate when we visited a farm in Iloilo (or was it a resort, I cannot remember) because the owner just picked one from his garden and turned it into our tea for lunch.
The last family trip to Atok was a feast to the eyes. It even amazed me at some point some flower beds looked like coral reefs (or I was just imagining things).
I do not have green thumb, but I do have a small set of carnivorous plants (haha) that do give me super cute flowers. But I have to wake up early to see them open. I only learned about these plants just this pandemic. This one is from my Bybilis.
It is wild though that sometimes there are beautiful things that can be extremely dangerous, too. My carnivorous plants are not dangerous to human beings they are unfriendly to insects only so far. I have heard of poison Ivy but I never thought some flowers can be really dangerous, too. I only learned from it while I was watching Netflix series one time.
They call it the wolfsbane - Aconitum. I think in some stories it is used to kill werewolves. And it was used to poison wolves and other carnivorous animals as well some centuries ago – hunting via poisoning.
In the story I watched the lady used it to slowly kill her partners for the money of course. She has it in her garden. It blooms beautiful purple flowers and I cannot wrap my head around the fact that it can:
Slow down your heart rate when ingested.
Anyway, there are probably a lot of flowers that I did NOT know that are dangerous. Like a lot of things in our life that we do not know are dangerous but can slowly kill us. Not everything pleasing to the eyes, or the palate are healthy.
Be careful and watchful of wolfsbane in your life.
