Believe it or not, the quality time your family spends can actually set a higher bar for life. With so much going on, it can be easy to let the details of family life fall to the wayside. You know what you should do? You should create a framework for family time, and stick to it. My parents were always making sure to spend quality time with my younger brother and I. We were little, so they found some interesting programs for us, visit an amusement park, visit the central park or the lido.
Recently, I've been reading a lot of articles about how a daily dose of quality family time goes a long way in improving a child's happiness and development, and I've found myself thinking I should do the same. I should try to make family time as much of a priority as work time. You know what would be even better? If people didn't have to commute so much. In this article I want to talk about the importance of quality family time.
The Importance Of Quality Family Time
The importance of quality family time can never be emphasized enough. Although this is a pretty bold statement, it's true. Familial duties, such as work and school, are obvious. Your mother will always be your mother, your father will always be your father, and your siblings will always be your siblings. What isn't so obvious, however, are the little things. For example, you sit on this couch and watch your family eat dinner together. You feel a sense of contentment. You grew up in a house with parents, that loved each other and that made you feel happy.
These are the little things, the moments that go unnoticed most of the time, but are important none the less. It's not just about the little moments though. All those big moments, that usually get exaggerated as well. These little moments make up the memories you have of your family. Those memories, of the good times and the bad, will be what you remember them by. It's important to make those memories, share them with the future and with each other. After all, you never know when those moments will be all you have left.
Why You Should Make Quality Family Time A Priority
You should make quality family time a priority because, chances are, you won't have it any other way. You're probably going to have to work and commute, when you go to and from work. You need to make the best of those times you do get to spend with them. Even if you do have the luxury of choosing when to work and when to spend time with your family, you should still make the effort when you can.
Make your family time as good as you can, because those are the moments, that you'll remember when you're old. While this is a rather pessimistic outlook on life, it does offer a little hope as well. The best way to make sure that you do have good family memories is to ensure, that those moments happen in the first place. If your family is happy, you'll probably be happy on some level too. That's just how it works.
Family Time Can Benefit Your Marriage
Of course, there's also the benefits, that come from a healthy marriage. Spending time with your wife or husband can help to build intimacy and trust. These are necessary components for a happy marriage. When you're with your loved one, you're less likely to feel stressed or upset about work. You're also more likely to enjoy each other's company and have a positive outlook on life in general.
Many people believe, that a good marriage can only survive if one spouse holds a job outside of the home. Although this is true to some extent, it is ultimately a two way street. It takes work by both parties to make a marriage work, and making time to spend together can go a long way. If you really love your wife or husband, you should take the initiative to make time for them.
When it comes to family time, all it requires is a bit of planning in advance. You see, it's not really realistic to think you can just jump out of bed and be ready to go every day. In fact, it can be pretty detrimental to your health. Rather than letting mundane daily routines dictate your day, plan ahead and prioritize your time with your family. You'll be glad you did.
Making Quality Family Time Happen
The first step to making quality family time happen, is realizing that you have to make it happen. If you're going to be working a normal job, you need to plan your life around it. If you always let your day be defined by the daily commute, you're never going to make the most of your time.
The next step is setting aside time every day to be with your family. This can be done on the weekends, or during the week. Sometime during the week, you should plan out the things you'll do with your family. Go out to eat, or go see a movie? Those options are there for you to choose from.
Finally, make those family times happen. If you always put yourself first, your family will eventually suffer. You don't want that, so make it a habit of planning your family time ahead of time and making it a priority. You never know how much time you'll actually have, so make the most of it.
By making family time a priority, you'll find that your bond with them will strengthen. You'll also find that your feelings of self worth will increase as well.
The Importance Of Being Present "The Moment Approach"
You've heard the saying "the moment approach" before. It's a pretty catchy saying, and one that's often misunderstood. "The moment approach" isn't about being impulsive or not planning ahead. It's about not getting lost in the moment and just doing what you can with what you have.
For example, let's say it's dinner time and your family has already eaten. You're hungry, so you grab some food from the fridge and sit down to enjoy your meal. You spend the rest of the night thinking about how you can improve your situation; you have a family, that loves and cares for you, so why are you eating cold food out of a bag.
You might be able to solve this problem in the moment, but by thinking about it for too long you start to get agitated. You lose that peaceful feeling, and end up just being miserable the entire time. To put it another way, when you're hungry, you grab food. You don't pause for a moment about whether food poisoning is a possibility or if the food has any other hidden dangers. You just eat.
The thing is, sometimes you need to make that same decision. In those moments, it's much better if you don't stop and think about everything that could happen. Sometimes, you just need to be there, be present and act.
Haven't been going home lately ...due to my schooling , now I was reminded to spent more quality time with Fam. I am going to make it happen. Thank you for this ☺️
