What is your attitude? How do you act? What are your beliefs? Each person has their own unique attitude, but there are some universal truths. We take our attitude for granted often. Unless, our attitudes are the result of our own personal growth, they have not changed much in the past. We might have had a few setbacks, but overall, we maintain a certain perspective.

Attitude is much more, than what you think to say to your friends or make fun of on social media. Your attitude drives what you put your energy into. It determines how much progress you make. It can deter or encourage you. It's a big part of the way you operate and the way you think. Your attitude is what keeps you going and what holds you back from your greatness. It defines you and all of the people around you.

We often argue, that our external world has a huge impact on our success and happiness. We also argue, that if we change our external world, we can change our internal world as well. The one thing we don't argue about as much as we could is if adjusting your attitude about your life and your future can achieve the same results.

How Attitude Effects Life

Your life to a large degree is shaped by your attitude. Your attitude either pushes you to reach for the moon or holds you back from even attempting. Each day, the choices you make will bring you closer to your goals or move you further away. This is a simple reality, that does not change.

This concept of attitude is not one, that most people understand. Some don't even believe it, but books and real life experience have disproved this viewpoint. If you don't believe it, try to change your attitude in an area, that you are proficient. For example, if you are not a people person, it may be difficult to change that mindset into one of confidence.

The effects of how your attitude changes your life is huge. It is why people become so cynical and bitter with age. However, the sky is not the limit. There is nothing stopping you from attaining whatever dreams and goals you may have. It starts with believing that you can do it, then taking the first step.

Your attitude is not something, that is beyond your control, but you must choose to use it. This means making decisions every day about what you will do. You can choose to let your situation or environment dictate your decisions or you can choose to take control. This may seem like a small thing, but in the long run it makes a big difference.

The way you approach and accept reality is also a choice that you make. You can decide to see the glass as half full and the world as a good place or you can decide to see the glass as half empty and the world as a bad place. Your attitude will shape how you see thing and how you approach life's problems. Your attitude can be molded into something, that will push you to the moon. It all starts with how you approach reality.

Fight or Flight

Your attitude has two primary aspects, the fight and the flight aspects. They are very simple in nature, but extremely complex in their interactions. Most of your energy goes into these two aspects. The fight aspect represents your desire for order and structure, while the flight aspect represents your instinct for survival.

Your fight aspect gives you a desire to take control over your life. This desire usually manifests in the form of purpose and direction. The fight aspect helps you seek out problems and attempt to solve them. This isn't always in your best interest, but it helps you survive in this crazy world.

Your flight aspect is your instinct of self-preservation. It's activated in dangerous or life threatening situations. This is the aspect, that allows you to fight or flee. Fleeing may seem like the easy way out, but it's not. The flight instinct gives you the opportunity to learn. Whether or not you learn from your mistakes is another story.

The fight aspect of your attitude is controllable, but the flight aspect is not. To an extent, you can decide how much fear you have in your heart, when situations arise. The problem with this approach is that your instincts are superior to any amount of discipline or willpower you can muster.

The Links Between Your Attitude And Your Life

Like I said, your attitude affects your life. Most people don't pay attention to it or even think about it, but it's all around them. It's what makes them able to laugh in the face of adversity or breaking bad news to a loved one.

Take a good look at your life. What do you have to complain about? You have a roof over your head, you have food on your table and you have people, who care about you. Is it a good life? No. Is it a fairytale-like life? No. Are you going to whine about it? No.

How you choose to see your situation is the key to your attitude. You have everything that you could ever want or need. Your attitude can shape how you see your predicament.

You're stuck in an existence that you don't want. This means you have two choices. You can either let this situation beat you down or you can find a way to change your situation for the better.

Most people don't want to change anything. They like their current set up and they're going to stay that way. This is obviously the easier choice, but it can lead to depressing situations in their lives.

The second group of people are the people, who want to change their situation, but don't know how. This is a dangerous mindset. If you're in this mindset, you're going to be frustrated a lot, because you won't understand why you can't accomplish your goals.

You'll also be frustrated by people who are more educated or skilled in a certain area, than you and they will (probably) get further, than you in life. You have to create links between your attitude and your life and those links are discipline, hard work and knowledge.

  • Discipline: You have to make the decision to put in the work. This may mean doing boring or tedious tasks, that you don't want to do, but someone else needs done. This may also mean making major changes in your everyday life.

  • Hard work: After you've decided to put in the discipline to reach your goals, you're going to have to work hard. You can't be lazy and expect to get anywhere in life. You can't be frivolous and expect to get ahead. You need to put in the extra time when no one is watching.

  • Knowledge: You can't get anywhere without having some sort of knowledge. This may come natural to you or you have to study. It may be school-related or even something you've found out on your own. The knowledge is going to be key to your success.

Those are the three factors, that are going to shape your life and your attitude. That's why you have to work hard at everything. You can't take it easy. You have to put in the work and understand, that good things take time.

If you are referring to this "You need to put in the extra time when no one is watching." I tell you what I mean. So people who put the extra time extra effort into their work even when literally no one is there they can get great success. Here is an example: My favorite band's pianist often stayed up in the studio until late in the night like 2am when the others were not there and he was working on the tracks. Turned out he was the best regarding the sound designs and all the studio works.
