The Press Club Saga
Boniface jerked up from his sleep, sweating like someone who was chased by a bulldog. He had encountered the real Goliath, a twelve feet human with an armour threatening to chop off his arm in the dream. The giant looking image strolled after him as he ran for his life. He ran and ran until there was nowhere to run to again. As the giant was about to land a sharp cut, Boniface woke up.
He held his pillow tightly to his chest and gasped for breath and sweat, the whole bed spread wet.
His roommate, Adeife, was wide awake reading for the engineering drawing test that will be conducted tomorrow. He saw that Boniface' reaction was quite strange.
Bro, this one you are sweating when the ceiling fan is rolling, hope you are fine?
Boniface was just rolling his eyes looking from right to left, up and down, like someone who is looking for something. He could not answer to Adeife's question.
First, there was silence for a moment. Then a loud bang on a door was heard. It was not their door but certainly, that bang is not friendly. That's when Boniface spoke up:
I saw a huge man chasing me with a very sharp swordlike weapon, threatening to chop-off my hand.
On hearing that, Adeife laughed.
Don't tell me that you are acting in all the drama. Dreams can be very funny, you know. You don't have to bother.
As Adeife was trying to say some soothing words to Boniface, a loud bang was heard on their door. This time, it is real. A baritone voice spoke from outside.
Ogbeni! Open the door or…….
This time, Adeife and Boniface ran into their different wardrobe as the voice spoke again from outside.
If you make me break down this door, you will regret the day your mother gave birth to you.
Ah!!! Adeife began to tremble in the wardrobe where he was hiding. The whole place began to vibrate. But Boniface, the one who just saw a very unpleasant dream walked to the door, open it and there were men cladded in black face mask, wielding different kinds of hockey stick.
Adeife had already come out from his wardrobe before Boniface opened the door. When he saw the masked men, he started vomiting.
Other hostel mates were all out in the centre of the compound, lying down and facing the ground. The absurd thing is that no one knows what the masked men wanted. Some of the ladies had already peed on themselves.
When everyone in the hostel had been brought out, one of the men made an announcement.
List you all. Which of you is a member of the University Press club?
At first, no one came out. The men then intensified their threat to chop-off the hand of anyone who would be later discovered as a member of the press club.
Now, Adeife understood the dream of Boniface. If he had known, he wouldn't have joked with it.
Then, Boniface and two other guys strolled out to signify their membership of the press club. The supposed leader of the masked men then went ahead to ask:
Which of you wrote the article on a strange group always meeting at the science department every evening?
The two other guys pointed at Boniface who had already started contemplating how to escape as he did in his dream.
Take him.
The leader commanded. As they made to arrest Boniface, he smartly ran through the partially locked gate to the other street and into thin air where the masked men could not find him.
It was the same e have like he saw in his dream. This time, he knows how to run to safety. The first two masked men that ran after him are short-legged, there is no way they will catch up with him. So, Boniface ran straight police checkpoint down the street shouting for help.
As the masked men appeared from a twenty metres gap, they knew that their prey had escaped, worse was that he has ran into the fortress of the police.
He stayed with the police till the next more ing when the case was reported to the university authorities and the science department and other strategic places where their could be dangerous meetings going on could be held was combed.
Boniface had decided never to quit writing.
Indeed, the pen is mightier than the sword.
