The Fourth Man In The Fire
Good day friends. The fourth man in the fire is a true-life story, but the characters in this write have been modelled by the author to take the place of the persons that were involved in the real-life story. You can read the part one of the story here.
The ambulance blew through the highway, with the heavy traffic, it got to the hospital and disembarked the victims, Bricks and Johnson-Marley tongue ICU.
Nurses and doctors scurried around to get one tool.or apparatus or the other and began to clean the wounds on the face of J-Marely. There seemed not to be any injuries on Bricks. He was only still.in shock of what had just happened.
While the doctors and other medics were attending to them, Layla having cried her eyes off and her husband, Humphrey drove into the hospital premises and straight to the reception, asking that they be directed to their son and the man who rescued him.
Since there was not much with Bricks, the doctors moved him to a special ward where counsellors would administer the needed therapy to calm his nerves.
Johnson-Marley was badly hurt, especially on his back. The left side of his face was also badly burnt, so the doctors applied some antioxidants that would reduce the pain and make the face heal quickly.
The hospital discharged Bricks after two days of intense focus on him but Johnson-Marley had to go through different observations. At some.point, he was sedated so he could have enough rest while the medical team removed the burnt skin and repaired it.
Luckily, they were successful.with every step they took on Johnson-Marley.
Though his face looked different, he became a national hero for that step taken to rescue the innocent boy from being burnt to death.
The fire service department of the state decided to employ Johnson-Marley if he desired to work with the department.
All this was happening while he was still at the hospital. Then, the minister for health and works visited the hospital to see the young man who had gone all out to rescue Bricks.
Since Bricks had been stabilised, it has been one organisation to government functionaries to the other visiting him with gifts.
The United Nations specialised agencies for humanitarian services also came. They wanted to know who the parents of Johnson-Marley was that was where the unimaginable occurred.
Johnson-Markey lives alone in a brick house in the neighbourhood.
According to him, his late father told him that his mother had abandoned him when he was only a year old and eloped with another man.
When he was finding it difficult to care for him with his white collar job, he had to resolve to come back to the farm settlement so he could ensure to give him the care and support that the little boy would need.
The reason why they came to the farm settlement and lived for eighteen years before his father passed on. Ever since, he had been managing the farm until the fore inferno.
Layla was so stunned to learn that Johnson-Marley was living alone at that age.
While the UN officers were seeking more information, Johnson-Marley told the team that the only evidence of his mother was the black and white picture of him and his mother when he was newly born.
The journey of my life began in Pretoria where my father and mother met and married.
Johnson-Marley retorted.
Upon giving birth to me. My mother left with another man, leaving me at the detriment of my father.
The story seemed strange to Layla. She remembered that she had towed the same line.
Could Johnson-Marley be her son with Greg? She questioned herself.
What is your father's name?
Layla asked Johnson-Marley.
His name was Chukwudifo Greg. He told me his parents were from Nigeria but got naturalised in the Netherlands.
Layla was so devastated. This is her son from ages.
She broke down in tears. Humphrey knew immediately that he had also played a bad role by taking another's man wife.
Johnson-Marley became an ambassador of kindness to the United Nations and was reunited with his mother.
Kindness does not take away from you, it adds to you. It is good to show kindness.
