Politics Is Everyone's Business
Welcome to April, the month of beautiful things. We have been working to see that things come out best while others are applying all strength to destroy what has been built. This is the news making the rounds around Nigeria.
On Tuesday, we reportedly lost the ticket to play in the world cup, Qatar 2022. Before then, there were news that the federal capital territory gave been over taken by terrorists.
One would begin to imagine. The domain of the president ought to be a safe haven and not den for criminal minded elements. It's rather unfortunate to see that the military or rather, the police force have been incapacitated.
Train Bombing
This is about the biggest disaster so far in the year 2022. A new rail line that was constructed by this regime with a whooping amount of money, that was borrowed from either China or IMF was blown off in the twinkling of an eye. What a world.
Our dear minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi who spearheaded the construction of the rail line is heard saying that it will take about #2.4 trillion to build the damaged rail line. This is another disaster.
Away from that. The bandits who capitalised on the non-digitalised rail, blew up the train and kidnapped some passengers with them.
The case of one Dr. Chinelo took the internet by storm when she posted on twitter that she was in the train and that prayers should be offered for her.
This has gone to show that the world is confronted with the same kind of heartless humans.
Some have posited that the spate at which violence is rising could be traced to the unfaithfulness of the government in meeting the yearnings of the masses, resulting into unemployment and provision of the dividends of democracy or any form of government practised in the country.
Politics of Greed
I am aware that some of these problems does not affect Nigeria alone. Most nations of the world suffer the same fate as your country.
The poorest of the people are always in the large number but have little or nothing to do to affect the government.
In less developed countries, mostly in Africa, the nature of politics differs from what operates in the western world. During the electioneering period, the people who ought to give ought a bad government are usually bought over with stipend from the politicians.
After elections, all campaign promises are either forgotten of deliberately left untouched. That's why you'd get to see most people resolving to crimes to earn a living even if that is not acceptable and could result to untold hardship or jail or death in some cases.
Leadership should not be seen as an avenue to build personal wealth but to affect society positively.
Public Education
This is the time. Now is the time when civil organisations should organise public education to orient the people on their rights and roles in determining the kind of government they want.
One of such education is that the government is responsible to provide the basic social amenities of life to the people. Water, hospitals, schools, security, to mention a few, are the sole responsibility of the government to provide for the populace.
The people should be informed that their vote is their power and it should not be sold. That no amount of money is big enough to buy their conscience. The people should be adequately informed of the recall procedure of their representatives in government who is not meeting up on his/her campaign promises.
Everyone Is A Part Of The Government
Whether you know it or not, our actions and inactions are a part of the successes or failures of the government. This is why we should be actively involved in the government of our society. Taking a back seat would only complicate matters.
The act of staying off politics is called empathy. This could have resulted from the unfaithfulness of politicians. The people have lost trust in the government as a result, they decided to participate in active politics.
