The greatest desire of a man is to have enough money to meet his needs. If perhaps a survey is taken on the issue of money and how we react towards it, you will find out that over 90% of humans desire money. It isn't wrong to say that many bloggers on this platform if not all, are here to make money to meet certain needs, in short, to make ends meet.
In real terms, money does not satisfy. This is so because the more money you have, the more money you will thrive to have. No matter how lowly you may think you are when one is placed on a pedal of hierarchy in terms of money, one will still want to make more money. I can't forget one of the songs by Notorious B.I.G titled:
¶More money, more problems.
This guy is rich and famous. But you know what, he sang this song from the experience he had gathered even as a rich dude.
A friend once told a life experience of his father who went on a visit to a rich friend of his. This rich fellow lives in a castle and has servants who were responsible to him. He had chefs, chauffeurs, gardeners, gatekeepers, laundrymen and women, and so on. There we many staff in the castle.
On the morning after, while my friend's father was awake as early as 6:00 am, the rich man was still cooking away and snoring in bed. He was so relaxed that he woke, cleaned up, and then the chef came to inquire what he would love to have for breakfast. Then, the problem of too much money ensued.
He first asked:
What did I have for breakfast yesterday?
His poor friend was so destabilized at the question. What has that to do with the question the chef asked? The chef replied him.
Sir, you ate custard with scrambled eggs.
Oh, I see. The rich man replied.
There was silence for a moment as he was thinking of what he would have for breakfast. So, he came up with an idea.
Make me tea, bread, and egg.
Ok, sir, the chef continued. What kind of tea would you prefer. We have Black Tea, Chamomile Tea, Green Tea, Hibiscus Tea, Mint Tea, Pu-erh Tea, Oolong Tea, Ginger Tea.
With his eyes wide open, the poor friend wonders what kind of problem is this.
The rich man opted for black tea. What in heaven's name is black tea? The poor man stood akimbo gazing at the rich man and his chef as hunger was biting him hard.
Mr. Chef went ahead to ask how his boss wants the egg. Another lecture on the kinds of egg preparation that exists in the world was mentioned. To the poor man, all this is madness. Come bread and tea that would have been settled under ten minutes, these two have taken almost the whole day.
When he was done with his boss. He turned to the poor man asked the same question. And the poor man replied.
Please, no need to waste time. Get me tea with bread and fried eggs. Please, don't give me a cup of tea too. You can prepare my tea in a jar with enough bread. In our house, we don't joke with breakfast, please.
The poor man would have done worse if he were in the position of the rich. His attitude now only shows his vulnerability. One man I know, his name, King Solomon. That's the richest man that ever lived. After he had lived in affluence and wealth, he concluded and said:
The sleep of a poor man is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of the rich will not permit him to sleep. ~ Ecclesiastes 5:12
Money is indeed defense but money is not an end to the desire of a man.
The spirit of money usually puts greed in the heart of men. The spirit is called Mammon. This is why people can do anything just to have money. They even engage in the meanest things because of the paper called money.
Dear friends, money is sweet. At least, the rich man had a lot of choices to make from the list but isn't that too much time going away while making these choices.
In all these, I have come to realize that our satisfaction doesn't come from the money we have. This same noblest of all kings had earlier said:
He who loves silver will not ne satisfied with silver; nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This is also vanity.
Then, it is reasonable to ask what gives a man satisfaction.
Satisfaction comes when we do not struggle because of money. It comes when we instead of searching for money, sustain humanity through our service to God. Believing and acting His word.
Money is just like a spirit. The more we want money, the more we would go to earn it and that could be more problems just like the rich man's story.
We won't be satisfied even if we have gotten enough money because we will still crave for more. But in all, let's be contented and remember everything are in vain.
