Let's Call It Quits
Recently, a friend of mine who lives in diaspora called me and narrated what transpired between him and his estranged lover. It was a bittersweet tale from both sides.
Dan travelled to the Caribbean island of King Solomon in 2009. He had decided to leave the shores of Nigeria to see a new life elsewhere. Since his visa application to Europe was rejected, he opted for the Caribbean nations.
Though, his movement did not come on a platter of gold. He had been to Morocco, hoping to cross to Spain but the number of casualties on the journey through the sea was quite alarming during the trip. Hence, he decided to go the other way.
At long last, he met a crew heading to the Caribbean and joined as a stowaway. It was a dangerous voyage but anything to take him away from Africa was good as much as he was concerned.
The ship finally harboured after several tough storms on the sea and Dan was happy to be in the Caribbean.
First things first, he found a guy to squat with for a few days and set out to look for a menial job to earn a living. He did get several menial jobs and in no time, he got an apartment for himself.
His mind wasn't settled because the earning here in the Caribbean isn't as buoyant as speculated elsewhere in Europe.
After he had gathered enough money, he registered as a citizen of Trinidad from where he relocated to Belgium as a professional office cleaning agent and general laundering.
When he arrived in Belgium, he didn't have too much problem settling down because he was well equipped with finance. But his life took a different shape when he met a beautiful lady called Tonia.
Tonia was practising law. She had her office in the capital city where Dan also had his small laundering firm.
They first started as friends and later as lovers. Tonia was a graceful lady, though she found it very hard to quickly accept Dan's profession of love towards her because of her experience with her ex.
However, with time, she accepted to give love a chance. It wasn't an easy decision but she took it, partly because Dam was an easy-going and responsible man.
Some months into their relationship, Tonia packed into Dan's apartment as his wife after a parlour wedding ceremony, after they had exchanged marital vows in a local registry.
One morning, after Dan had gone to his office to finish up some work, he forgot that his personal computer wasn't in his office bag. When he got home, he met the most embarrassing scene of his life.
His best friend and Tonia were kissing so passionately. This happened right before his eyes but the two adulterers never knew that Dan even entered the apartment. At this point, he felt like committing murder but on second thought, he decided to walk away.
Throughout the day, he thought of what to do to Tonia. After the day's work, he returned home with a mind never to say what he saw in the more.ing when he came home.
As usual, Tonia met him at the door as pressed the doorbell and hugged him, welcoming him back home.
They ate dinner and retired to bed. Still, Dan didn't act strange. He decided to act like nothing happened but with a method to catch them red-handed.
He continued at his office as more contracts kept coming in and he made a lot of money but refused to perform his husbandly duties. He didn't have sex with Tonia. Though she was worried, she already had a substitute.
Dan soon finds out that Tonia and his friend MacDuff meet at a secret guest house. He made an arrangement with the reception for a black glass lounge for the duo unknown to them.
On the day of their next meet, Tonia came in first, went straight to the booked room, pulled her dress and laid in wait for MacDuff. Dan watched and recorded all these. He was there watching his legally married wife sharing her body with another man.
He wanted evidence and he got it. Dan filed for a divorce. When the document got to Tonia, she was shocked. She confronted Dan but he refuted the accusation that he was only taking advantage of her wealth.
The two of them appeared before the registry to defend themselves as to why the marriage should continue.
After much argument, Dan presented the video clip to the social workers who authenticated that Tonia was having an extra marital affair. Hence, she was not entitled to any of Dan's property.
Oh my.. this is Soo.. hmm, how could she had done that!. Mehn this are ladies that makes other ladies look bad. Sleeping with your husband's friend. Both of them have no conscience. If you can't stay in a marriage anymore, call one another and talk things out instead of cheating.. that's a painful experience he had.
