Grandpa Taught Him Kindness

Sean grew up in a rural area with his grandfather. He had lost his parents to the flood, and as the only child, he had to. live with his old grandpa. It was the best option he had.

His grandpa made sure he had the necessities of life. Clothes, food, and accommodation. Sean grew up to be a good boy. His grandpa taught him so many good things. He taught him to be kind.

When he was eighteen years old, Sean went to harvest some yams on his grandpa's distant farm. On his way, he met an old woman who was struggling with a load of firewood.

Sean helped the old woman with a load of wood to her hamlet. She was so grateful but she had nothing to pay Sean for his act of kindness. She just prayed for him and asked him to be kind still.

After the service to the old woman, Sean ran home to make yam porridge for his grandpa who must be starving now. He got home and made one nice but tasty meal for his grandpa.

Several weeks later, while Sean was returning from the farm with a basket of yam tubers and snails, some young fellow accosted them and accused him of stealing the products. They beat him and led him to the king's palace.

When they arrived at the king's palace, and after cross-examining Sean, the king requested the young fellow to be their witness but no one came forth except an old woman.

She said:

That young accused man is innocent of the accusation. He didn't steal from any farm. I was cutting some herbs in the forest for a chickenpox patient when I saw him harvesting tubers of yam from his grandfather's stakes.

The young fellows were so dazed and ashamed of their gully behavior. It was a gory sight for the king and he ordered that the young fellows be jailed.

Sean out of compassion pleaded with the king not to incarcerate them. He pleaded until the king had no option but to release the young fellows.

After Sean and the young fellows had left the palace, the kin wouldn't understand what just transpired. He wondered about the fact that a young fellow who had been beaten by some violent men would still be on their behalf. He thought that the young man had a good heart. He asked that Sean should appear before the council.

On the day of the invitation, Sean dressed moderately and went to the palace where the chief-in-council was awaiting.

I am sorry my elders and king. I didn't know I was to appear this early. Kindly forgive me for keeping you waiting.

The chiefs looked at him with such wonder of a boy so humble, something that is hard to come by among young fellows of this time. One of the chiefs said to him:

No, no,  no. You didn't keep us waiting. We were supposed to have the chief-in-council meeting before you arrived.

With this, Sean was relieved. He was asked to step out until he was called into the chambers.

Silently, he stepped out as he took a bow and sat under the big almond tree, waiting for the council to beckon in him.

During the council meeting, the king asked that Sean be made his personal secretary and assistant and should be under the community payroll.

Fortune fell on the poor orphan for being kind. His grandpa taught him well.

When he resumed as the king's personal assistant, little did the king know that a great fortune awaited the entire kingdom.

Sean, one night had a chat with the king and told him that he could help write the missions in the urban area to construct pipe-borne water in the community. The King gave his consent and in less than half of a year, there was pipe-borne water flowing in every nook and cranny of the community, all thanks to Sean.

Kindness is good and it takes people to a greater place in life. also, we should not be kind because we're expecting kindness back but we should be kind because we just want to
