Education Is An Antidote

Education as you know is the bedrock of any nation. A world out education would have been so crude, primitive and immobile.

Without education, you cannot solve any of the world's problems but with education you can solve the majority of the world's problems. 

Here, I mean that education is not only in the four walls of a classroom. Education begins from conception to death. Knowing this fact has helped a lot of people consider education as a life process which every individual who wishes to live meaningfully should adopt. 

My Thoughts On Education

Simply put, education is the process of acquiring skills, knowledge and being impacted for a better and purposeful living. 

From this part of the world, when you educate an individual, you open their eyes and give them the light to walk without confusion. No wonder the saying goes:

If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.

My humans around the world have lived a life of redundancy because of lack of education. Education opens the mind to see what exists, why it exists and how it can improve living standards basically. Even the Bible supports education. 

My people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge. 

Knowledge which is the key word under discuss from the foregoing word, can simply be defined to a layman as the ability to know. 

The struggle to know what exists and why they exist can lead to freedom of not knowing that concept in the first place. Whatever you have known is an advantage to you. If it's a dangerous thing, you know how to avoid it. And on the other hand, if it's a good thing, you know how to put it to use for your good. This is how education affects the world. 

Importance of Education

Education is important for various reasons. One may not be able to recount all its significance but beneath are some of the importance of education. 

• Education helps an individual to develop problem solving skills. The problems of our current world are enormous, yet educationists or researchers from different fields of career are providing solutions to them all. For instance, the covid-19 spike has been curtailed by the education of medical professionals around the globe. 

• It improves critical thinking strategies for individuals. The ability to think out of the box is one big importance of being educated. Where some other folks who do not have your kind of education see problems, the educated would rather see solutions and benefits. 

• For job qualification: Education is very important. Today, many people have decided to be educated in some career that will help their career and to be qualified for some job. For instance, in the year 2000, the need to be computer compliant increased around the world. The Y2K Computer Compliant Syndrome took the world by storm. People decided to study how to be vast in the usage of computers and its application to real life, business accounting, security, military, manufacturing and telecommunication, the list is endless however. 

• Self reliance and empowerment is another big importance of education. In my little experience as a teacher, many people who are schooled or educated, if you like, have become self-reliant, creating productive initiative and becoming employers of labour. This helps in reducing reliance on the government and it's agencies for sustenance and good livelihood. 

• National Economic Growth could be aided by education. In more advanced nations of the world, credence is given to education in such a way that learners are meant to attend school till a certain age. Like in Nigeria where I hail from, the 9-3-4 education system is practised. Here, a student is meant to be in primary school for 9 years, three years in technical, vocational or senior secondary school and at least 4 years in the university. This system is called the Universal Basic Education system from the former 6-3-3-4. 

This system is designed to bring about nations economic growth in such a way that learners can develop vocational skills to begin a trade and not depend on the government for a job. 

If education is given it's rightful place in human society, the standard of living will increase and humanity will be better than what it is now. 

How Should Education Be?

Education can be formal or informal, direct or indirect. Whichever way it comes, education ought to be interactive and interesting. Practical experimentation can also be good in the line of education. When education isn't interactive, it becomes boring and repulsive.

What You Should Do To Educate Yourself

Education, like I said somewhere above, begins from the time of conception. It is a lifelong process. For a person to educate his or herself, the following should be considered. 

• Interest:  Your interest is usually your area of strength. In my short experience as a guidance counsellor and a school head, I have come to discover that for an individual to live a productive life, he should operate in his area of interest. So, to be educated, you should consider your area of strength. 

• Read Books: Authors of very insightful books have made provision for you through their books which are rich in information that help you get educated in your academic pursuit. 

• Attend Workshops / Seminars/ Conferences: To be tutored by people who have walked a path before can better equip you for what you intend to do or go into. Self-development is key and can be gotten via attending such programmes or refresher courses.
