1966 Junta
Ideology differences can cause chaos. In the wake of 1962 in Kikivu land where civilian rule held sway and exhibited a high level of corruption by political office holders plundered the treasury of the nation.
Sergeant Malaki, a military economist, having studied in the London School of Economics called an emergency meeting of top military officers in the heart of Pretoria. The meeting was to discuss the take over of power from the corrupt civilian government. An agreement was signed to keep the meeting in confidence. And forthwith, no.physical meeting will be held. All update for the plan will be communicated via telegraph.
Kikivi land has become a shadow of herself. In the early 1960s, the nation witnessed one of the most tremendous and productive periods in history. The economy was ranking among the top ten in the world, where #1 was equal to $1. When as a university graduate is awarded a new car and free lunch is served at the university cafeteria for all undergraduate. Where wages of a common civil servant was enough to take care of family needs. It was the best of time for all citizens of Kikivu land. But now, all that is in the past now.
President Mbagu nominated his kinsmen into different political offices. Built his home town making it look like Broad street in London. His political party, Movement For Democratic Change (MDC) also was involved in massive rigging of election results to her favour, against the wish of the electorates.
Three weeks after the classified meeting was held by the military, the president in a live national broadcast announced the removal of fuel subsidy which will amount to the hike in pump price of petroleum products in the nation. Before the announcement, a litre of petrol was sold for #0.7, it would be sold for #1.4 after the presidents broadcast. The labour union was ready for a face off with the government. Also the national youth council.
Nothing seem to be working again. Pipe borne water and electric supply is fading away. Some parts of the country are living in total darkness. What more is there to enjoy in a democratic government that cannot provide the basic social amenities of life to her people.
On July 16th, the military was ready to launch an attack and seize power forcefully for the corrupt politicians. This time, they have to be tactical about the who process so that the international comity does not declare a state of emergency over Kikivu.
Patience. That's what is necessary to achieve success in the coup. The men are set but to avoid the next big dearth of our land we would strike just when it is ripe.
The supreme military council isn't aware of the initial coup de'tat as initiated by Sergeant Malaki. The council warned of the dangers of corruption in all parastatals of government. That singular warning sent a chill in the spine of the politicians.
To allay their fear, the corrupt politicians placed top military officers on compulsory retirement in their hundreds. This was the height of it all.
On the independence day, the military struck. They barricaded the square where the official celebration for the independence was taking place, arrested the president and whisked him away amidst tight security that was not in place.
That day, the nation that weeps began to smile for an unfortunate tomorrow in the hands of the military.
The best military government is worse than the worst civil rule.
After the Junta, the military set in motion to plunder the land the more. They were worse than the politicians.
They first had to suspend the constitution. Fundamental human rights no longer count. The judiciary had no say in national matters. It became more lawless under the military.
A nation that does not respect the masses will collapse like a pack of cards.
Truely the masses are suffering, may God help us all
