Most of the time, people think that following the trend and having the same brand name as others is cool. It's like proof of status and wealth(even though some were fake rich). That's why people went to the extreme just to possess luxuries, even if it means being in debt or draining out savings. This kind of lifestyle is actually detrimental to our mental health and financial health. When you drown yourself in following trends too much, you start becoming addicted to them. Thus your mindset will start changing bit by bit. You would've lived life accustomed to following trends, burning your pockets dry till the day you die.

Are there only cons to being a trendy guy/girl?

No, cons aren't the only thing following trends has. Being someone who follows trends, uh, pardon me, I mean, being someone who gets updated on the latest trends and stuff has its own pros too!

Let me ease your curiosity by elaborating further. What if you're someone who is looking to start a little side hustle? What if it's a coincidence that you're also like the idea of selling? Then take it another step further, what if your dream is to own a branded goods outlet? But the downside is that you don't have the capital to actually realize your dreams. So what other choices do you have?

Now, lemme help you with this. How about you, with your knowledge of the latest trends and popular kinds of stuff, start a second-hand online shop buying and selling second-hand branded goods. You should have an idea of what products people are going crazy for, then move a step ahead of others and sweep those items into your inventory. Then sell it as you want, either by opening up for bid, or just a flat sky-high price.

This is just my personal opinion, and I feel that everything has a double side to it, depending on your perspective. Kids buy toys just to play with them and destroy them in the end, but an adult collector buy toys and figures for the sake of collection, believe it or not, some make millions of dollar just selling their inventory of collections from a long time ago.

Like how people found fortune in pandemic crisis, by transforming their offline business which operates by focusing on customers that walk past their shop, to online business which has online storefront like Facebook pages, Instagram shop, or by using online ads to aid in running businesses. This way, the business will have to extend its potential to grow because it will have customers from around the globe.

So remember to look from multiple POVs before you decide and do anything. Anything can happen, any miracles can happen, be sure to grasp the opportunity that comes by.
