VISA files several crypto and crypto related trademarks
VISA is the latest of the ever-growing list of companies looking like they are finally taking notice of the crypto market. They have recently filed a couple of new trademarks relating to this.
VISA has filed two new trademarks relating to crypto wallets, NFTs, and the Metaverse. I assume this means that they are currently looking to develop new services at the very least. If they will pull the trigger and bring them to market. That I guess is still up for debate.
If we look at the trademark filing we see that the trademark in question are filed for the following use: "management of digital transactions; use as a digital currency wallet and storage services software; use as a cryptocurrency wallet; and managing and verifying cryptocurrency transactions using blockchain technology,".
The second trademark is filed for this: "providing temporary use of non-downloadable software for users to view, access, store, monitor, manage, trade, send, receive, transmit, and exchange digital currency, virtual currency, cryptocurrency, digital and blockchain assets, and non-fungible tokens (NFT)".
But I think we will see more and more trademarks like this in the near future. Ans American Express has indeed already filed its own trademarks as well. So this leaves the odd one out Mastercard.
Hopefully, this will lead to more mainstream attention if VISA actually pulls the trigger and put out a product. And if they do it then that basically forces the hand of the others.
What is your thought on this, do you think it is good that VISA is dipping its toes into the crypto waters? Or would you rather everything crypto be handled by crypto-only companies? They will get in on crypto big time.
