Twitter - The Purge

Lots of crypto accounts were suspended temporarily today by the Twitter platform. The reason as usual is not known why Twitter suspends, locks or permanently bans any account. Some of them are back, others not yet.

Twitter was a good idea but it has some major issues that make me think it won't be around by the end of this decade. The censorship in this platform is at another level. Accounts will get blocked for absolutely no reason, perhaps a like or a retweet, other accounts will be doing fine for years, until suddenly for no apparent reason they will get suspended.

Twitter's customer support is terrible, gives automated replies, and weeks later after your appeal is read by an actual person you still won't receive any proper explanation on why you were suspended.

There are even accusations of accounts getting removed, so Twitter can pass the handle to someone else. This is a fucked up website that deserves no attention. I hate to admit that I am using it, and I will probably completely abandon and delete my account.

What happened?

Suddenly the AI algorithm woke up, or somebody in the office was having a bad day, and quite a few accounts related to cryptocurrencies were suspended.

Some of the accounts affected were:

To be honest, I have blocked most of them since years ago. Willy Woo for many reasons, PlanB because he just ripped-off a few other charts to create one that thinks it is a holy grail, and the rest for many unreasonable and unintelligent posts they keep making.

But this is not the point. How do we want the internet to work? Twitter as a private company offers this product.

What kind of rules did these people break to deserve suspension? Did they threaten someone with violence? Did they abuse the financial markets for their profit perhaps? I sincerely think that this is what every CEO is doing on Twitter, trying to manipulate the public and the investors and pump their stocks. This is what marketing is doing and Twitter is a marketing channel and nothing else. The term social media probably meets only Facebook standards, no matter how much I disapprove of this platform as well. The term social media is weak on its own and maybe should be replaced by marketing media.

In this case, many accounts were suspended at the same time. Twitter sucks so much that doesn't even care to give a serious reply and just have one automated reply they use on all occasions.

Willy Woo asked for the reason his account was suspended and got this reply, which is an automated response by Twitter.

"We have systems that find and remove multiple automated spam accounts in bulk, and yours was flagged as spam by mistake. Please note that it may take an hour or so for your follower and following numbers to return to normal,"

Previously

There are tens of thousands of accusations against Twitter's abusive behavior and disrespect towards its users. Earlier last year there had been massive suspensions of accounts in favor of Assange. Some of these accounts were legitimate and were running for years. Then Assange was illegally arrested and deported to the US, so Twitter had to reduce the voices that were in favor of Assange. The same happened multiple times before, especially during some major news or event that can create controversy. Quite often we see some people discuss it, suffering the same consequences.

Twitter sells your credentials.

Try removing your phone number from Twitter. It will just take minutes, perhaps one retweet or a new tweet and your account will be blocked and you will be asked for a phone number to unblock it.

What will happen is that in a matter of days you will start getting phone calls from various call centers selling anything you can imagine. It is not only illegal for Twitter to do that, but it is intrusive and in fact, this company lies to the public when saying that no private data is sold to advertisers. This is exactly what Twitter is doing, at least have the courtesy of admitting it.

The hard way.

There is another process you can take and appeal to unsuspend your account. Sometimes it works, but usually, your account will be flagged for mandatory phone number verification and the problem will resurface.

Do not give your real identity if you don't wish. It isn't required, just write any character and in the details respond that you want your account unlocked as you don't have any mobile number available for verification. This way you enable email verification, you will receive one and you should reply giving the same response.

This used to work for me when I was using Twitter until last year when I stopped as I was disgusted by Twitter practices and the "Big Brother" techniques used in this pile of garbage. But after some time it could stop working, as everything is random bullshit inside Twitter.

Twitter and the @Bitcoin handle.

The @Bitcoin handle on the Twitter platform was one of the top Bitcoin Cash proponents for a long time. And it was one that also got unreasonably suspended by Twitter, until suddenly one day in August 2019 it did a U-turn and started posting in favor of Bitcoin, having deleted all previous posts related to Bitcoin Cash. It was either sold by the original owner or just passed hands to somebody else.

Jack and the Big Brother success

Jack Dorsey should be embarrassed having created this kind of fascist platform. Anyone that believes in freedom of speech needs to either abandon or limit the use of Twitter.

I remember all those that were trying to excuse Twitter claiming it is a private company and can do anything it wants. Very bad argument. Works well when it fits your narrative, but when you are the next one in line, you will be the one crying foul on Twitter.

But there is a lot more behind the scenes

There is actually a lot more on Twitter that we don't know about.

Youtuber ColdFusion gives a great history lesson on what was going on behind the scenes with Twitter and investors, as well as a different story on the creation of this platform. It is a long story of Scandal and Betrayal that sheds some light on the fairytale as they want to present it. The story didn't start with Jack.

I am sure that Twitter serves absolutely no purpose except marketing spam. It reaches a new level with the number of fake accounts, fake likes, bot comments, and countless shill accounts that spam any reasonable attempt of conversation and exchange of thoughts.

The real problem though is the limited number of characters. There are subjects that nobody can discuss in-depth and it just limits the ability to freely speak your mind unless you make a chain of tweets which usually results in difficulties to read and process.

Taking everything into consideration, the only positive I see in Twitter is marketing for your company or your image and try to create a fake perception of it. Anything else is just useless and a waste of time. For the reason that Twitter managed to reach into such a corporational size, I think it will not just fall one day but will take many years of declining before being completely forgotten. End of the decade and we will be over with it.

This is why I prefer noise.cash over Twitter. Less toxicity and less drama.

It could be a great alternative. Sadly toxicity is unavoidable when too people enter. I hope that noise.cash succeeds, it certainly looks promising.
