Electronic health records (EHR) are an organized repository of patients’ medical information stored in electronic format. The information contained in healthcare EMR system generally includes medication history, test results, scans, allergies, immunization, age, weight, vitals, and even billing information. Needless to point out, this information is helpful for providers to assess a person’s medical situation and decide upon treatments.

The biggest advantage of using an EHR solution is that it eliminates the need for physical documentation and paperwork about people’s health information. Better yet, it is easier to organize and manage all that data if it is in electronic format. This benefit is best understood at large hospitals that deal with a large number of patients on a daily basis. Many physicians, as well as medical experts, have also pointed out the role of EHR software systems in helping to reduce the carbon footprint of the healthcare industry.

Electronic health records or electronic medical records (EMR) are able to digitize most or nearly all of the physical documentation and the workflows associated with them. As a result, there is a significant reduction in the need for paper, which goes on to save many trees from being cut down. Additionally, since it can be integrated with other medical software, it also enables faster workflow and also helps to avoid physical documentation even for administrative purposes.
