Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (Photography:3) I don't know in which name it is known you. I know it as Jaba Flower. Jaba is a beautiful and attractive flower. The flowers are pink, white, red, yellow - various colors. It can be seen everywhere in Bangladesh. Jaba flowers are usually planted in the yard or on the roof of the house as an ornamental plant. This jaba is an evergreen flowering shrub belonging to the genus Malvesi. Origin in East Asia. In 1853, scientist Carolus Linnaeus named it Hibiscus rosa-sinensis. The Latin word ‘rosa-sinensis’ means ‘rose of China’. In Bengali the names are Raktajaba, Jaba, Jaba Kusum.

Unique example of secularism in Bangladesh A group of activists of Taqwa Foundation, a voluntary organization, set a shining example of humanity by arranging the funeral of an old man of traditional religion who died of corona symptoms in Manirampur. They were basically burying Muslims in accordance with Islamic Sharia. A man named Debendranath Ghoshal (60) of Ghughudah village of the upazila died on Saturday with corona symptoms. At that time his body was lying at home for about 5 hours but no one from the village came to him. As a result, there was no arrangement for burying his body. The deceased's nephew, Principal Milon Kumar Ghoshal, said his younger uncle had been suffering from jaundice for a week. He was being treated locally. But today, Saturday, his fever increased and he vomited blood. He died before being taken to the Upazila Health Complex. When asked, Ashraf Yasin, team leader of the local Taqwa Foundation, said, "We basically arrange for the burial of the dead according to Islamic rites." But since the person who died on Saturday with corona symptoms is a Hindu, when they contact us, we tell them that if you do not have any problem, we will make arrangements. Nasim Khan, Md. Birthday of the father of heridity Today is the birthday of Gregor Johann Mendel.Gregor Johann Mendel (1822-1884) was born in 1822 in Brunei, Austria (now Czechoslovakia). Education and his hobby was to be a teacher or a scientist. But could not be due to poverty. In 1843 he moved to Altbrun Church as a pastor. He was sent to the University of Vienna in 1851 for higher studies. He failed the test and returned to church in 1854 and became an additional teacher of science. Research life and in 1857 he collected 34 types of peas (Pisu satiuum) and started experiments to find out the genealogy of plants in the garden adjacent to the church. After seven long years of hard work, he discovered two sources of heredity and published them in his book Experiments in Plant Hybridization.His formulas are called Mendel's formulas or Mendelism. The theory given by Mendel is regarded as the basic of current genetics and he is called the father of heridity.He was died on 5 January 1884 at the age of 62.

Regent's Shahed: A man with a murky past For any business deal, Regent Group Chairman Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim used to issue bank cheques with encashment dates that could be two months later. But in most of the cases, the bank accounts would either be empty or closed. When the victims tried to contact Shahed over the bounced cheques, he used to threaten them with severe consequences by using names of influential people. During this period, he used to buy clothes from traders and make payments to them with cheques. But the traders never got any money, said the cop. "A trader then filed a fraud case against Shahed for not paying him Tk 64 lakh and we arrested Shahed. But within a couple of hours of his arrest, we received dozens of phone calls from top officials and ruling party leaders requesting his release." The police officer said the case was later transferred to the DMP's Detective Branch and Shahed secured bail. Investigators said Shahed used to save the phone numbers of his associates with names of different government high officials and top law enforcement officials, including the inspector general of police. When anyone met Shahed for payment, he used to give signal to his associates to call him. Shahed would then put his phone before that person to make the latter feel that he knew an influential individual very well, sources said. On Wednesday, a team of Rapid Action Battalion arrested Shahed from near the Labangabati river in Satkhira's Debhata upazila. The Rab said he was attempting to cross the river on a boat to flee to India. Later in the day, he was flown to Dhaka by a helicopter. His arrest came a day after the Rab picked up Regent's Managing Director Masud Parvez from Gazipur.
