Her vindictive laugh still rings in his ears.
'You said you wanted me.' He struggles to keep his voice level but of course it breaks, much to his dismay.
'I lied.' Her answer is cold, sharp and clipped. Like she finds this conversation unworthy of her time.
He hears the rain hitting the window, and it's like the sky is weeping for him as his heart breaks.
He thinks back to all the times he made her laugh. He thinks back to everything that has gone on between them in the last year. How could anyone fake that level of desire?
'All those nights. The glances, the touches.'
He hates that he sounds like he's begging. He loves her of course, but who wants to be with someone who doesn't love them too? He can't even explain why he loves her. It's not that she's changed, she's always been this way. Maybe he was just hoping with time, she would come around and maybe fall for him too.
She shrugged. 'I was bored.'
He hopes she won't notice the effect her words have on him. The room is fairly dark with only a street light filtering in and the occasional flash of lightning. He doesn't know if she can see his face but something must give him away.
'What, you honestly thought I wanted you? Out of all the men I could have, you thought you were the one? Pathetic.' Her voice is full of disgust, and laughter.
It isn't until now that he sees just how merciless this woman can really be. He finally understands why they say love is blind. The rolling thunder mercifully hides the sob that slips from his mouth before he can stop it.
Lightning illuminates her face; her expression is one of contempt and absolute disregard for what her words have done. With a few short sentences, this woman has ripped out his heart and stomped on it without a care. Pain renders him unable to speak or even think of what to say to her.
She seems to know there is nothing more to be said between them because without another word or a even a backwards glance, she leaves and doesn't return.
That was the last time he saw her. The last time he spoke to her.
Now, he has only her vindictive laugh ringing in his ears.
That was way too cruel but i guess it happens in real life way too often than one could imagine
