A bright light shone from beyond her eyelids waking her from her deep sleep.
'Why is it so bright?' she muttered sleepily.
And cold. Why is it cold? Did I forget to close the window last night? Why is my bed so hard? Where are my blankets? Questions flooded her sleep addled brain as she slowly rubbed the sleep from her eyes.
She sat up and let out a startled scream. This was not her bedroom. The room was white. Completely white. The floor which she was laying on, was smooth, white and cold. The light came from a single bulb hanging over her head which seemed to be magnified by the white, featureless walls surrounding her.
The room was completely empty. There were no windows in sight, and most disturbingly, there didn't seem to be a door either.
'Welcome to the White Room.' said a womans voice seemingly from nowhere.
She didn't recognize the voice, either.
She looked around again. She was alone. Was there a speaker system? She studied the walls and ceiling again. If there was, it was well hidden which didn't make her feel any better about her situation.
'Where am I?'
'Welcome to the White Room.' said the voice again in the same flat tone.
A recording?
'Help me! Please!' She started pounding on the walls.
Someone would hear her, right? There had to be someone who could help her.
'Let me out!' The panic in her voice rang in her ears as she continued to hit the wall.
'Welcome to the White Room. please, remain calm.'
There was a small clicking noise from the other side of the room and a panel slid open revealing a woman's face.
'Help me!'
The face looked back at her impassively.
'Where am I? What do you want?'
A part of her wanted to run over and grab the woman and demand to be released but something deep inside told her that would be a very bad idea so she resisted.
The woman simply continued to look at her and held out a piece of paper.
'You want me to take it?'
The face watched her expectantly.
Did she have a choice? Maybe if she did what this strange woman wanted, she would let her go.
With a shaking hand, she reached out and took the paper. The panel slid shut with a metallic clunk. It gave her chills. Something about that sound seemed, final.
She unfolded the paper and fell to the ground in tears, hugging herself.
Written on the page, was her name followed by the words:
YOU HAVE BEEN REMOVED FROM EXISTANCE
