An island in the UK has earned the name Deadmans Island for a terrifyingly morbid reason. The island is solely inhabited by the dead. As a registered bird nesting site humans are not permitted to visit nor live on the island which has led it to be virtually untouched by modern society for almost 200 years.
They have allowed only one BBC crew onto the island and what they found was chilling and unforgettable.
Thanks to rising sea levels and erosion human remains are popping up from the mud which once hid them from the world. Open coffins greet anyone entering the island perimeter which has been dubbed (fittingly) 'Coffin bay'.
The island was once used as a burial ground for convicts who didn't survive the crossing to Australia. Generally those buried here were prisoners who had suffered from disease which made it impossible to bury them elsewhere for fear of spreading the sickness.
