Bullying, is one of the worst things any person can encounter in his lifetime, be it at school, work or anywhere in public. Today we will be addressing this issue by writing about it in this article.

Bullying or Cyber bullying are two major problems occurring in our daily life, with Cyber bullying being online rather than in the real world, both issues can badly contribute to a person's mental health, be it with or without being physically involved. And in our world, harassment is getting more and more out of hand, and something should be done about it.

When we talk about bullying, we imagine children in school, or young people in general, when it fact many adults are getting harassed in nowadays society, for their race, gender, religion or even their weaknesses, and little to no action is being taken. When a person gets put down, his mind starts to ask questions, and his sadness emerges. Bullying can cause side effects and even death, yet there is no actual law that protects anyone from this major problem.

Types of bullying:

Well, there are numerous types of bullying, which are written down below:

  • Verbal bullying: Which includes all types of insults and swearing towards a particular person, name calling and other. This type is mostly common online and is basically called Cyber bullying, but can occur tons of times in real life. This issue can escalate with time and start to mentally affect the person getting the insults, by making him think he's either worthless, useless or simply giving him sadness, which if not discussed immediately can lead to self-harming or even suicide.

  • Social bullying: Is in fact a problem, but not so much towards the person in a direct way, but in a more indirect way, where it involves hurting someone's reputation by spreading rumors about him, which in return will get him hate and eventually bullied. Another example is mimicking a person's accent or the way they talk with or without the intention of harming them, which is return will result in a mental break down to the person getting mocked, if done multiple of times. Social bullying can also include giving someone a negative facial look.

  • Physical bullying: This one is clear, and is as bad as the other types. Physically bullying someone, especially women and children, be it at school, work, public places or even at home, from the significant other, parents or people, is in fact catastrophic, it involves aggressive hitting, hair pulling, ear pulling and more, and in the worst case scenario, the person getting bullied can not talk about it, especially at home.

Identifying the issue:

Physical, verbal or social bullying can be identified on children and adults by their significant other or their parents with being alert of their surroundings and their behavior. Identifying the problem in an early stage can help the person getting harassed in his mental or physical health, recognizing the problem includes some of the following:

  • Bruises: When looking at someone, bruises, if repeatedly occur, can be a clear sign of bullying, but a person may be hiding the issue by covering his or her arm, face or other parts of the body. This will result in asking the question on why are they behaving in that way and hiding themselves in an unusual way. And this will help discovering the problem.

  • Anxiety or fear: In some people's conditions, bullying can be accompanied with threats, that will surely keep someone fearful by walking alone or going to a particular place.

  • Clothes in a bad condition: Which are either a cut or many cuts in the cloths, torns or in some cases lost cloths, which might indicate that the person is getting bullied.

  • Sleep disruption: If the victim is in pain or keeps on thinking about the problem, insomnia can happen.

The Solutions:

Well, luckily we have many different solutions we can use to protect or help our loved ones or even strangers, and some of the solutions includes:

  • Teaching children how to act: Educating the children on how to act or react when it comes to physical bullying is very important, and some of the teachings are either to learn how to evade a potential occurrence of bullying by having advanced social skills, or by teaching them how to defend themselves, and how to not get in that situation in the first place.

  • Non-aggressive reaction: Social skills are important in everyone's lives, but when it comes to verbal or physical bullying, knowing how to respond in a polite and friendly way, can get a person out of trouble. Practicing social skills can include mind-playing the bully by acting friendly for the time being or eventually making him your friend, and either stay friends with him or simply stop talking to him by the time being. This will in fact get him to stop bullying you, be it verbally or physically.

  • Consider speaking to the manager: Speaking to the manager or the school or work might help address the problem. But sometimes, the harassment comes directly from the boss at work, the teacher or even the manager. In that case a police call can help, and if it doesn't, then simply switching schools or work can do the trick.

  • Defending strangers: If you ever spot someone getting bullied in the street or even online, step up and defend him. If a homeless person is being harassed, a child getting picked on or a "gamer" getting cyber bullied, step it up and act accordingly. If the situation persists consider calling the police or eventually telling the cyber victim to "block" communications with the other person.

  • Aggression: When no other solution can help, having an aggressive physical behavior might help. In many case scenarios the bully will stop attacking you if you just fight him back in an effective way. Remember, bullies are people who pick on the weak, so if they find you strong enough they will probably leave you alone, but again, this is not the optimal solution and finding a better one is the main key for this problem.

Conclusion: Bullying is bad, it can contribute to a person's life in a negative way, be it physically or mentally, and can cause him self-harm or suicide. If you are a good person, it will make the world a better place.

You are right. Social media is among the top places where people get to bully others, by comments or other means, and we definitely need a law against bullying.

Yes, and good morning Trofi. We should also have laws that protect people from bullying in general, not only harassment.

Have a nice day.
