Sticky Slimy Slug - Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenge

6 52

Well ... Slugs! Who doesn't like slugs? Thigs can go even better when the slugs are cave slugs... why they look like vampire slugs? Honestly they look disturbing!

The Cave Slugs is a common Untamed card from the Life Splinter. The 5 Mana cost looks high for 4 Health Points, 1 Speed and 2 Melee damage, even with the Opportunity ability. However, the 2 Melee with Opportunity can be a game changer.

I don't use this card much, but I used a few times in the past so I am familiar with how to integrate the Cave Slugs in the battle mechanics. I think if this card will be Earth or Water Splinter will receive more game time from me.

Battle plan and tactics!

I choose a tactical battle for this 99 mana cap duel, with standard ruleset. I don't use Life Splinter much but I hate it when I fight against Life and my opponent keeps stacking armor. I decided that this will be the tactic I will play.

Tyrus Paladium - Summoner (+1 Armor to friendly monsters)

Shieldbearer - OP Tank with Taunt

Armorsmith - Support card with Repair

Truthspeaker - Support card with Protect

Sand Worm - the Cave Slugs ancestor: OP damage

Cave Slugs - melee with Opportunity

Goblin Mech - basically... You shall not pass!

The opponent selected the Life Splinter as well, same summoner but a tactic based on heal not armor. The Shieldbearer kept stacking armor like I am stack $CUB on CubFinance. It was a grinding fight and first monster down was after two full rounds.

The Shieldbearer fell in Round 3 but he will go in Valhalla for his heroism. The Cave Slugs kept dealing damage and the Goblin Mech in the last position was a winning choice as the enemies with sneak were shooting blanks.

The Goblin Mech stacked so much armor and the as the battle unwrapped it moved towards a clear victory. The team I used and battle mechanics was ready to fight for hours and at the end of the fight I lost only the main tank. See the full battle here!

Why I used the Armorsmith and Truthspeaker in the second and third position? It was a great tactical choice. The repair and armor were required in the first stage of the battle. The Shieldbearer had to survive until I would gain board superiority and then both the Armorsmith and Truthspeaker will be extra shields in front of the Sand Worm and Cave Slugs. In the middle part of the battle and in the endgame is no need for armor as everything will move into seek and destroy.

The Cave Slugs did their part and delivered sticky damage behind the enemy lines. Being classed in the Life Splinter allows the card to be boosted with armor and have the space to focus on dealing damage.

I rarely play the Cave Slug. I should investigate more into the strategies because my deck should allow me to reach higher leagues. Just too lazy!
