The football competitions for clubs are now concluded. There were big surprises in the top European Leagues and unexpected winners in the Europa League and Champions League. Everyone expected a double party in Manchester but instead it was "fiesta" and a tea party in London!
Before the Champions League final even started, in fact immediately after the semi-finales ended, everyone seen Manchester City as the big favorite. Everyone was expecting that the "Citizens" will finally lift the UEFA Champions League trophy and Pep's boys will do a great game.
No one expected such a dull game and Chelsea took advantage of the lack of creativity from a team that was suppose to dominate. Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the match and the trophy goes to London.
The Europa League final took place on Miejski Stadium, and Manchester United team was favorite against Villiarreal. It was 1-1 after 90 minutes and no one scored in extra time. The outcome was decided after the penalty shout-out, as all 11 players from Villarreal scored and Manchester's goalkeeper, David De Gea missed his penalty.
Manchester City and Manchester United will have to be appreciated for the great run in the Premier League. City won the title with 12 points ahead their rivals while Man. United finished second after many years. Liverpool and Chelsea will go in the 2021 - 2022 edition of the Champions League, while Leicester and West Ham will play in the Europa League. Tottenham will play in the newly created Europa Conference League. Fulham, West Brom and Sheffield United will play in the Championship next season.
Similar to the Manchester dominance, in Italy it was a good season for both Milan teams. Internazionale won the Seria A title after 13 years. AC Milan grabbed the second place in the last round, after a win against Atalanta, which secured the 3r place and will play in the 2021 - 2022 edition of the Champions League. Juventus ended 4th, and will play in the Champions League as well. Napoli and Lazio will play in the Europa League while AS Roma will play in the newly created Europa Conference League. Benevento, Crotone and Parma will play in Serie B next season.
Big surprise in France, where PSG failed to win the title. Lille was the over-achiever of the season, holding the one point lead in the last rounds of the season. The second place is a disappointment for PSG, the only consolation will be the fact that they will play in the group stage of the 2021 - 2022 edition of the Champions League, while AS Monaco will play in the qualifying rounds. Lyon and Marseille will play in the Europa League while Rennes will play in the newly created Europa Conference League. Nimes and Dijon will play in the second division next season and Nantes will play a play-off to remain in Ligue 1.
Atletico Madrid is not an underdog but winning the title against Real Madrid and Barcelona is still a great achievement. Sevilla will join the trio and will play in the 2021 - 2022 edition of the Champions League. Real Sociedad and Betis will play in the Europa League. Celta Vigo will play in the newly created Europa Conference League because Villarreal won the Europa League and gain access to a Champions League spot. Huesca, Valladolid and Eibar will play in Secunda Division next season.
Nothing new in Germany! Bayern Munich easily won the title. Red Bull Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg will play in the 2021 - 2022 edition of the Champions League. Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen Leicester will play in the Europa League while Union Berlin will play in the newly created Europa Conference League. Werder Bremen and Schalke 04 will play in the second division next season.
I added Romania as well because I seen many Romanians around and it was a close season until the last 4 rounds when FCSB lost 3 out of 4 games. CFR Cluj won another title and will play in the Champions League. FCSB and Craiova will play in the Europa League while Sepsi will play in the Europe Conference League
With club football completed... everyone now is waiting for the European Championship
