The woman called Fraulein didn't see it coming.
All she could see was Ace rushing towards her, and so she turned her back to him and made to flap her wings. Her idea was to create a gust in front of her that would translate to suction in Ace's direction, drawing him in for the kill.
But was she looked behind her, she saw Ace bend, and then she caught sight of him.
Alec Winters.
His posture appeared to be very distorted, almost as if he was throwing something with all his might.
And then she saw the rod. The rod he'd tried to impale her with earlier. But it was way too late. It whizzed over Ace's head and caught her right true the spine, paralyzing her instantly.
"Bullseye," Alec said calmly.
Fraulein crumpled to the ground with a clang as she shrieked although her voice was a tad inaudible. She was dead in minutes.
Ace looked behind him at Alec, who had collapsed in pain. He was surprised. How did the boy muster enough strength to throw that fast? Then it hit him. Alec had this time, possessed control of the suit, and used it to his advantage. By simultaneously moving all the joints in his upper and lower limbs, he brought about a greater degree of swing, and thus a greater force of propulsion.
But such a desperate move had come at the cost of all the muscles involved. He was probably just a bundle of pain at the moment.
"I think that suit is really messing you up, Alec."
"You think? You gave it to me, you..."
"And you're saying you haven't enjoyed its use?"
"Well, I can't say that, but it is a double-edged sword. How come it doesn't have any other weapons on it? It's just like medieval armor, except it hurts to use it."
"And it increases your strength, agility, and reflexes."
"Yeah."
"Well, that's why we're going to Domino City. According to the instructions your parents gave me, there are some hardware upgrades they stashed there," Ace said, handing Alec the paper containing the instructions.
"How'll we find it?"
"Well according to their instructions, we'll have to cross the Dunes. It's a bleak clue, but I think I know where that might be, even if it'll be a harsh journey for us both."
"And I'm a damn hungry man."
"All will be handled soon. Including my identity. I know you have a lot of questions, but fr now, we need to be on the move."
"Why?"
"Fraulein was the mastermind of a huge network that transported people around this continent. How long do you think it'll be before someone finds out about her death?"
They quickly dashed into her office, collected the keycard, and boarded the available shuttle vehicle. It operated on Magnetic Levitation, meaning it hovered abou#ve a metal track that guided it to its location. All they needed to do was reach Domino City, barely three miles away, and they'd be free.
Alec slept off, tired, as the armor kicked into repair mode and began to administer some brief first aid to him via special chemicals and electrical signals generated. He wouldn't be okay till he ate some real food, but they found some energy drinks in Fraulein's refrigerator, and Alec drank about six.
He would be fine.
Ace kept awake. He turned on his Frequency Decoder, which would receive and decode any information being carried by radio waves or EM waves. He had to stay on top of any latest developments if they were to make it out alive.
Suddenly the shuttle crashed to the ground and stopped moving. The lights inside switched to a blinking red as a computerized voice chimed:
"Manual Override engaged. The shuttle is now in Emergency Mode."
"Manual Override?" Alec said as he groggily woke up. Ace didn't like the sound of that. Switching between frequencies on his device, he finally heard the words he didn't want to hear.
"Buzzz. we've shut down the shuttle system. All units have been dispatched. They couldn't have gone very far, so we'll not give up until we find them."

I really needed a model for that posture, but I guess we can't always get what we want. ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
