Stress is a part of our lives, but if we touch it too much, it can have harmful consequences for our health, which can manifest itself in various physical ailments and often insomnia. What exactly is stress, why is it wrong to have too much of it, and what stress relief exercises can we do against it?

Stress is our body’s natural reaction to various external influences. It can also have a positive effect on us, as it can encourage us to perform better, but in the long run it has a harmful effect on our body and our health. It weakens the immune system, and it can cause depression, high blood pressure and even circulatory diseases. Persistently high heart rates and high levels of stress hormones can cause damage to the body, even high blood pressure , heart attack or stroke.

What exactly happens in our body when stress comes to us?

The production of adrenaline and noradrenaline increases, which leads to many processes in the body: blood pressure rises, rapid heart beats faster, dry mouth, and the stomach upsets. Sugar and fat are released to provide the energy needed for increase brain and muscle function.

Once the stress is gone, everything in our bodies returns to normal, until we experience a similar effect that restarts this mechanism in our body. There is a problem when we are constantly exposed to such effects. There is hardly a stress-free life, but it is also a fact that in our modern world there are more and more factors that make us feel stressed. If we live in a bigger city, we get the first dose early in the morning when we get on public transport or get in a car. Crowd, urban noise, a lack of attention of others, are all effects that disturb our nervous system. And then we didn’t even talk about global impacts like the general uncertainty caused by the coronavirus epidemic that has been a part of our lives for months.

Our body responds to constant stress with various symptoms. These include sleep disturbances, fatigue, irritability, frequent headaches, dizziness, malaise, anxiety. If we experience these things in ourselves, it is first and foremost to know the main sources of stress in our lives. If we can't eliminate them, we can help by trying different stress management methods.

Let's learn to schedule our time well

Extreme stress can be caused by tight deadlines and pressure from multiple tasks. To reduce this, it is worth learning to schedule your time well, for which the so-called “to do list” can be a great help. We can prioritize our assigned tasks and also remind ourselves of upcoming submission deadlines.

Sport and meditation is good for everything

The right amount of exercise is essential for staying healthy, and it’s also perfect for relieving internal stress caused by stress. Let’s start running, yoga, biking, or just a hearty walk: no matter what form of movement we choose, the goal is to get our body up and running. Even a half-hour of daily exercise can reduce physical and mental symptoms and improve stress management and problem-solving skills.

If we combine exercise with relaxation and meditation, the result will be even more effective. Talking about the meditation: we can go for relaxation therapy under the guidance of a specialist, but we can also find many meditative classes on the Internet, either online or offline.

Go to nature!

It calms the soul and calms the mind when we go in nature, so it is especially recommended for those who work and live under severe stress in everyday life. A trip in the woods, an autumn sunbathing on the banks of the rivers, and we are guaranteed to return home fully recharged. It’s also worth trying “jungle bathing,” during which, under the guidance of a coach, we learn to relive the moment and let go of our daily anxieties.

Find the source of the stress!

Above all, the most important thing is to find the reason why we are most stressed. Obviously, the best thing is to try to eliminate the problem from our lives, but it can also help a lot if we teach ourselves how to deal with the pressure on us, the internal tension, suffocation, anxious feeling. However, if our complaints persist, be sure to see a specialist who can help alleviate or eliminate the symptoms caused by stress with various therapeutic practices.
