Pills or contraceptives are drugs/preventive measures women take, to prevent pregnancy. It is the most used birth control strategy these days. Barrier measures such as condoms are not used by married or couples who are dating these days.

This has prompted a rise in the use of contraceptives which can be both orally taken, or taken in the form of an injection or implant (Intrauterine devise).

These pills have no doubt always achieved their purpose when taken at the right time, the issue here is that there is a rise in the number of women suffering from arthritis globally.

Arthritis is the response to injury of protective tissues surrounding the joints in the arm, leg, toes, ankle, fingers, etc. There are two major types of arthritis; Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

The consistent use of contraceptives causes osteoarthritis, which is defined as the wearing of tissues surrounding bone joints. Symptoms include pain, swelling, restricted movement of that particular area, redness, itching, etc.

Though osteoarthritis is known to be caused by the accumulation of uric acids which are bye products of protein break down, the use of pills is also another major cause in women that is not often talked about.

Most contraceptives work by preventing the release of the hormone 'Progesterone and Oestrogen' that are both required for the formation of ova and development of a fetus, thereby ensuring that only estrogen is released.

Oestrogen is a reproductive and metabolic hormone. When contraceptives are taken, estrogen is continuously released, but the receptor sites, stop much uptake of it as one ages leading to deficiency.

Oestrogen modulates the formation of osteoblast/oesteocytes (bone forming cells) while T- cells modulate Bone cells are continuously resorbed because more osteoclasts (bone cells that carry out remodeling, removal, and reshaping of bone) are produced and do not undergo natural death (apoptosis).

Increased production of osteoclast will not be met with increased production of osteocytes (bone-forming cells), especially in aged persons. Recall those metabolic activities, especially the anabolic ones decreases with age.

In summary, the use of contraceptives, inhibits the release of estrogen that in turn prevents the natural death of (apoptosis) oesteoclats dissolves bone, hence causing osteoporosis, and possibly osteoarthritis.

Share this information with loved ones, if you are a husband, learn how to use other natural methods of birth control like withdraw or use barrier techniques that involve latex. Educate your mum, and sisters, and even girlfriend on why they need to stop the consistent use of pills.

Doctors, pharmacists, and health care personnel won't readily tell you this because, the manufacturers are health personnel, and are also capitalist. Thank you.
