A lot of people find it difficult to express themselves in public. Some are shy, some are lacking in confidence whilst others don't how to speak in public. Starting from a tender age at beginner's school, to highschool and even in college or university, a lot of individuals fail to express themselves among mates, fails to answer questions in class and also find it difficult to lead an assembly.

Practical approach to public speaking involves three steps

  • Before you speak

  • When you speak

  • After you speak

Before you speak, gather all the information you can about the topic you want to speak on. You should be familiar with words relating to the topic of discussion. You can build your confidence in front of crowd by practicing in front of a mirror or someone you're comfortable to address. The aim is for you not to run out of words. Your appearance must be one befitting the occasion because your dressing and looks will create a permanent impression on your audience no matter what you speak or how you speak.

When you speak, speak wisdom and confidence. Maintain eye contact with your audience. Do not let the crowds get into you.

After you speak, ask yourself, should I set down? You don't need to regret over a mistake you made. You only need not repeat the same mistake next time out.

As evident, you have a lot to work on before you speak. Constant practice of these practical approach to speaking will boost your confidence before crowds.

The sin of monotony

Have you ever wondered how public speakers, though they have much to say can still sound boring, empty, dry and uninteresting.

Having what to say is not enough. If you're must drone on and on without a variation in your tone, at the same speed, at the same energy and with no difference in cues will bore out your audience.

When birds sing, they don't drone on and on like a robot. They offer different tone, high pitches, high squeaks, slow calls, and fast thrilling sounds.

If all creatures were to be the same, the world would have bored out. Variation drives interest and catches attention.

When your speech lacks variation, it is monotonous and lacks interest, creating a dull atmosphere.

You can avoid monotony simply by multiplying your tools in delivering speech.

Thanks as always for reading through and I hope you gain confidence in public speaking as you enjoy your day.
