This article should be my 5th entry for this month, and I am glad I fulfilled my goal. Unlike last month, I will complete my 30 articles a day; I hope you enjoy my content and thank you for always supporting me.
I am sure you saw what today's article is about from the topic, thats right, people, today I will be writing on "Discrimination."
In my life, I have seen a lot of vulgar and inhumane people who think they are better than others and make sure they prove it.
To some individuals, "discrimination" is an everyday sport, and they make sure everyone gets a taste of it.
First, What is Discrimination?
Discrimination is the prejudicial treatment of another based on their characteristics such as race, gender, age, or sexual orientation.
Some of us may have been victims of this disgusting word, but I want you to know that it doesn't matter what they call you. You are unique and special. They can't just appreciate you, that is all.
Humans usually do these things to make themselves feel better or superior; I have learned that this action is not something we are born with; it is something that a person allows.
Children don't care about colour, race, or gender. They love everyone because they don't matter to them, but today's society has made it, so children notice colour and gender.
Most parents teach their children to hate people who don't have the same body tone or speak the same language; these children will now be racist humans who think they are better than others.
Discrimination is linked to two things fear and misunderstanding. It is a severe issue in today's world because everyone seems to hate and discriminate against one another.
You could be killed on the street, arrested, or insulted just because you are different from other people.
I was checking out some memes, and I saw one that said.
"If there is a crime, a black man did it"
It was funny, but it isn't far from the truth, last year we witnessed the police brutality to the finest, George Floyd, a black man, was killed by a policeman.
I can't say it was because of his race, but why would a human put his knee on another's neck till he dies? Is that what a police officer should be doing?. Why didn't they put him in handcuffs, and if he resisted, they had teasers.
There was no reason to kill that man, but the policeman killed him like he wasn't a human being.
If his actions aren't a good example of discrimination, I don't know what that should be called; I can remember watching the video and feeling sad as the man's soul was leaving him. He called to his "Mommy" as he died, asking her to help him.
Those were his final words in this world.
Discrimination isn't just a personal problem; it affects everyone because that policeman's actions caused a major riot in America during the Covid-19 pandemic.
His actions might have led to the massive spread of Covid in America; he left a girl without a father, a woman without a husband.
He may be in jail, but that won't bring her father back.
We are in the 21st century, and people still behave like animals; humans don't care or love one another; all I see is hatred for ourselves, this hatred is growing every day, but we don't do anything to solve it.
Based on Research, discrimination can deal a severe blow on mental health; luckily, you can take some steps to get over it.
It takes choice and mind. But if you follow these steps, then you can overcome anything that is holding you back.
Focus on Motivating others: Instead of being depressed and discouraged, focus on bringing happiness to others. This step would help your emotional state because when you make others happy, there is a high chance you will contract it. Just like giving, when you give to others, more will come to you.
Look for Support: Don't lock your negative emotions deep inside; look for people to help you overcome that negativity. Seek support from groups that will influence you into taking the right path because even though you are a victim, it doesn't make you any less of a human. It is a disease that destroys people without them knowing. It may hurt you when you tell others about it, but you must first take a step before overcoming it.
Forget the Past: If you want to move on, it is better to forget the experiences that hold you back. Don't get stuck on what others did to you; handle those experiences and become a better person. You can shout it out or cry all you want but don't do that your whole life. It may have been a traumatic experience but don't get stuck on it. Talk with people, get help and keep calm. Some professionals can help with the situation; you can contact them if you need someone to talk to.
Get Involved: You can do this by helping people who have the same issue, opening up, hearing other people's experiences can help you overcome yours. Hearing experiences from other people can even help you curb it in the future because you are more educated on the topic. Even if you have never been discriminated against before, it will help research it, so you don't fall victim to it.
Today, people have less and less love for one another. If you are guilty of being discriminatory, please stop it. You have no idea how bad you make the other person feel; even if you are doing it as a joke, it can take a massive toll on someone.
If you are being discriminated against, whether in your workplace, school, or anywhere, follow the above steps. Don't stay silent and lock it all up; you are also a human being.
No one has the right to make you feel less. Stand firm, be confident in yourself; you are exceptional. Love yourself, and no one would bring you down.
Thank you for reading, and I will see you in the next one!
Discrimination starts at home. So parents must nurture their kids very well making sure they only radiate kindness and they value differences. Only then we could have a better place to live in.
