The culture that the common man has been cultivating for ages is folk culture in the general sense. There are different elements of folk culture.

The concept of folklore:

By folk culture we mean the culture of the common man and his society. That is the culture of the people. Folk culture is born in the mouths of people, in their thoughts and actions. This culture has been passed down from one generation to another for thousands of years.

People have been cultivating folk culture in Bangladesh since ancient times. Much of the folk culture that people talk about has changed over time. In different ways, different trends have been created in folk culture. E.g.-

From fear: The existence of fear of ghosts in folk society is very old. Although judged scientifically, there is no such thing as a ghost. People have imagined many ghosts. Such as Mamdobhut, Panchpechin, Shankhchunni, Petni etc.

Gayehlud ceremony: Gayehlud is a significant aspect of our culture. Different types of rituals and reforms are performed around the body.

To cure diseases: Hindus carry amulets or amulets from priests and Muslims wear them around their necks or on their arms / To avoid eye contact: There is a belief in the society that evil eye on a child can cause harm. It is generally called eye contact. Kajal's tip is given next to the child's forehead to ward off evil eyes.

To bring down rain: When there is drought for many days, the farmer gets worried. The girls of the village hold a ceremony to bring down the rain. They went from house to house with kula. Rain cuts songs or rhymes in the mouth. The girls of the house pour water on the cooler. They believe it will rain like this.

Elements of folk culture:

A. Material Material: The material elements of folk culture that can be captured are material elements. E.g.-

Folk art: Weaving, branch, bronze, pottery, nakshikantha, cane etc.

Folklore: Technology of making spinning wheel, fishing tackle, plow sickle etc.

Vehicles: Boats, palanquins etc.

B. Subject material: Those cultural issues that cannot be grasped, that is, born from human thought and spread by word of mouth, are called objective material of folk culture. , Folk drama etc.

The folk culture is basically the culture of the people and the culture of the settlement. In the course of time and in different streams of culture-rule, exploitation, flattery, etc., there has been a transformation or evolution of culture, but the basic trend of folk culture is still continuing. Although many things have evolved in the damadol of modernity, folk culture is its own culture and original culture. A broader definition of culture is 'our culture as we are'. Bangladesh is still an agricultural country. As a result, the workflow of the farmer's life is the culture of the people here.

The field of folk culture involves creative hobby activities that are based on folk traditions; heritage culture; intangible cultural heritage; study, preservation and recording of national and local cultural traditions; public culture events; activities of societies; courses and supplemental training.

The task of the state is to ensure that our intangible cultural heritage is valued, preserved and developed, and to maintain the long tradition of song and dance festivals.

There are a lot of people in our society, who are actively involved in folk culture, and their number is growing despite the fact that the population is in decline. Popularity of folk culture guarantees the survival of ancient customs also in modern times. Thanks to those people who take care of our heritage, the traditions of playing the zither, singing in a choir and wearing folk costumes is still going strong. These abovementioned activities are, however, only a small part of our rich folk culture.

Experts on folk culture are schooled at Tallinn University, the University of Tartu, Viljandi Culture Academy of the University of Tartu, and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. A professional qualification system has been established in several sub-areas.
