You need Potassium!

POTASSIUM:

-is one of the lightest metals known and so soft that it can be cut with a knife. Even though it is only a third of 1 percent in the human body, it is still known as a "macromineral" because it is compared to other important minerals, such as iron and copper.

You need potassium every day. This is because the human body does not store it as other minerals and potassium is important for the body's cells. They say that when potassium levels in cells fall, sodium enters the fluid around the cells. This changes the acid-alkaline balance in cells and leads to a toxic condition that can lead to death.

Another reason why potassium is important is that it plays an important role in the use of protein and carbohydrates. Potassium is also an important element for muscle activity, especially for the tireless muscle that is the heart.

If you do not get enough potassium, you may experience muscle weakness, reflex problems, back pain, headaches, constipation or insomnia. You can also deal with conditions such as apathy, lethargy, depression or mental confusion, not to mention a heart attack. All of these conditions can be due to insufficient potassium. In fact, experts say that potassium deficiency occurs much more often than previously thought.

There are some things you need to protect yourself to make sure your body has enough potassium. On the other hand, one must be careful not to live almost exclusively on foods that contain little or no potassium. This includes all highly refined foods, such as those that consist mainly of white flour and white sugar.

But it is even more important to be conservative with foods called potassium thieves. The most common thief is sodium chloride, better known as table salt. Although salt is necessary, it is recommended to consume it in moderation. Another potassium thief is licorice.

Then there are some medications, such as those used to help the kidneys, so-called diuretics, and certain hormones given by drugs, such as cortisone, which absorb potassium from the body.

Although almost all foods contain potassium, you should consider those that are high in potassium to make sure you get enough of that mineral. Meat such as veal, lamb, liver and turkey are at the top of the list, as are seafood such as cod.

Beets, carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes and spinach are among the high-potassium vegetables. And among the fruits that are one of the most beautiful ways to get potassium are apricots, bananas, oranges, peaches, plums and dried figs. All nuts are also rich in potassium. Do not forget dietary supplements such as bone meal, brewer's yeast, molasses, sunflower seeds and wheat germ.

Since you need potassium, it is worth making sure you get enough.
