Hope you all are having good health! Today I am here again with part-2 of my previous topic. I am writing this because a few days ago an incident happens in Pakistan so I thought to give my review about it.

Being a human, where we are 2.0

I was so restless due to certain news and social media posts roaming around about a girls’ assault. After searching some news channels, I came to know that the incident occurred on August 14, 2021, at Minar-e-Pakistan when a female TikToker, Ayesha Baig with some friends went to Greater Iqbal Park for making a TikTok video. Narrating an interview, she added that a mob began by wanting to take selfies with her and her companions. It was okay as far as the taking photo goes, but soon people pushed the whole group to a closed area and started to tease them and went so far that her clothes were ripped and she was badly tortured. Saving herself, she ran into a small pond. Her fellows asked her to jump into the water but she couldn’t make that. They also called at Police helpline, 15, but to no avail.

She narrated that the whole group was tortured from 6:30 to 9:00. She added that the crowd kept pulling her hair and holding her as she lost balance. She said that if a girl is not safe in her own country, in her own city then she is not safe anywhere.

It was one side of the story, now come towards the flipped facts. The incident took place on 14th August but the incident was reported on August 18, after four days have passed. Everything was normal for her until a video of her being tortured went viral on the internet. She even had uploaded her Instagram story with a cute picture of her, which didn’t give any clue of what she has been through. When the video went on, she went to the Police station to file a case against 400 unknown suspects.

A war started on social media between two types of people, one was those who were supporting her and asking for justice and the other one was saying that this whole incident was planted for the sake of fame and popularity. Many news reporters took her interviews and stood by her side demanding justice for her. Many were blaming her and saying that she did it to herself, she must not have gone there, she made such videos to attract people, so on.

Whoever the culprit is, the question arises that is it morally okay to assault a girl like this and then putting the whole blame on her actions and dressing? Is any girl in your approach, an opportunity? If a woman is mistreated, how can it be her fault? We, as a nation, have to take it seriously. We hear a lot of rape and assault cases that are reported by news channels. But we ignore them by saying that nothing can be done for these people. In most cases, women are blamed for saying that they wear revealing clothes to attract the opposite gender due to which such incidents occur.

When this victim-blaming will stop. No one can imagine what she will be suffering. Even if it is her fault to go into the crowd, this must not have happened to her. Not a single man over there tried to save her. The hard thing was people uploading those heartbreaking videos on different social media platforms in which young men were molesting her, dragging her, and throwing her in the air. Those videos are really horrifying for any girl watching them. Before blaming her, no one had thought about the pain and stress she is suffering.

Now come to the actions taken by Govt. in this regard. First of all, cops were suspended for not responding to the helpline. The helpline number, 15, was dialed 22 times. But not a single call was picked. Secondly, a committee is formed to catch the culprits as soon as possible. The police force has booked 400 unidentified men as suspects and leaked videos of the incidents would be used. Moreover, Police need the sufferer to visit the Police station for identification of arrested suspects.

The news was reported that Ayesha Baig has requested the Police not to proceed with this case and inquiry committee be dissolved. However, PM Imran Khan has taken notice of this incident and strictly ordered to catch those black sheep who tried to deform nations' true face by doing such unethical acts which is against our moral values.

Until now, 66 suspects have been arrested and Police are searching for the remaining.

We have to be mentally strong enough to identify who the real culprits are. Instead of playing the blame game and trying to flee from the situation, we should play our role to make society a better place where women are free to breathe.

Because she was a TikToker so people are saying that she deserves this. I wish the same.
