People everywhere are demanding more of what Earth has to offer, especially in terms of food and energy resources. While the technological advances of the past century have allowed for us to produce food faster than ever before, it has not even come close to keeping up with our ever-increasing demand. For example, the 2012 drought in the US Midwest forced farmers to slaughter half their livestock due to lack of feed but this was just one region that experienced a shortage. Although these extreme weather conditions hurt many areas around the globe, they still do not compare with the total damage that overfarming inflicts on Earth.
Farming is not the only issue when it comes to our dwindling resources; the way we produce energy has an even greater impact. Our addiction to oil and other fossil fuels is causing irreparable damage to our planet. Not only do these sources of energy create pollution and contribute to climate change, they are also finite. We are using up these resources at an alarming rate, and there is no telling how much longer we will be able to sustain this kind of abuse.
The bottom line is that Earth can no longer support an ever-growing human population. If we don't take immediate steps to address these issues, we could be facing a very bleak future. It is time for us to rethink our priorities and start working towards sustainable solutions that will allow us to live in harmony with our planet.
