If you are a student, I'm sure you'll be able to relate to this.

We're all taught how to think critically in school, but some of us forget how important it is after we leave the classroom. Critical thinking skills are vital for any type of work that requires rigorous analysis.

If you can learn what critical thinking really means and how to apply it on a daily basis; your ability to succeed will dramatically improve.

Critical thinking is so important that employers have been placing a greater emphasis on it when looking for potential employees.

The following are 6 tips to help you become better thinkers:

1. Focus Your Attention

The ability to focus your attention is critical, especially when you are trying to solve complex problems or make rational decisions. When your mind wanders aimlessly, it makes it difficult to come up with a rational conclusion. Put an end to your random thoughts by concentrating on the task at hand. You'll be amazed at just how much more productive your thinking becomes.

2. Maintain an Open Mind-Set

An open mind is one of the most important factors when engaging in critical thinking. If you think there is only one way to solve a problem, any new information about other possible solutions will not be considered. You should constantly be assessing your beliefs and be willing to give up some of them in order to solve complex problems.

3. Question Everything

This may sound counterintuitive, but you should question everything that is presented in front of you. Do not accept something just because others have said it is true. Only when you are able to ask the right questions can you really know what is true or not.

4. Approach Problems With A Blank Slate

The worst thing you can do when presented with a problem is pre-determine what the solution should be. The moment you choose your course of action, chances are it will compromise your ability to think critically. Approach problems with a blank slate by asking yourself the right questions before making any decision.

5. Get Some Sleep

Did you know that lack of sleep can impact your ability to think critically? This is because when you are tired, your brain becomes less efficient at completing tasks. It has been shown that people who are sleep deprived have more trouble solving problems due to not being able to focus their attention.

6. Question Everything Again

I know it seems strange, but you should question everything again when you have come up with a solution or come to a decision. Even the smartest people are always looking for ways they can improve on what they already know. It is critical that you acknowledge all the flaws in your thinking before making an important decision.

7. Stick with the Facts

It is easy to get caught up in your emotions when solving problems; however, it is important that you stick with the facts and keep an open mind about all of them. Keep emotion out of your thinking and focus on what makes logical sense. Do not make extreme assumptions or let others sway you with their emotions.

If you can accomplish these 5 things, I guarantee your ability to think critically will dramatically improve.

which I think is very wrong and shouldn't be the case. It's like saying, the world will end tomorrow because your boyfriend said so.
