Moral decadence
For a while now, I've been wondering about the level of decadence that our society is sinking to each day.
I'm from a typical African society and as any familiar with this society of mine, you would understand and appreciate the diversity of culture that promotes morality in all aspects of life.
You may have an opinion that Africans do not treat female folks quite well but it's all about perception. Of course, some cultures may be tortured by the demands it places on women but again, that is not the point of our discussion here.
It is moral decadence and how our society has been victims and suffered due to the loss of moral values of men and women.
Moral decadence covers everything from our dress sense to speech and behavior towards elders and our lifestyle and morals.
To begin with the behavioral aspects toward elders, it has always been part of African culture to respect and give honor to the elderly ones. But due to so-called civilizations, the youth consider themselves wiser and often disrespect the elders. The youth are never willing to listen anymore as they used to in the past. And as result, they have become emboldened to carry out shameful acts without regard to the words of the elders.
Another aspect that moral decadence has sunken society is the aspect of moral conduct. The society of Africa is on holds morality to the highest. And things like indecent dressing, rape, and pregnancy out of wedlock were something alien to African culture. But what we have today is just different. You have taken into drugs, alcohol, and youthful sexual engagement. The result of all these had led to high abortion rates, youthful drug addiction, and youthful mental issues.
The decay of morals in society has brought new standards of values. Such values have continually seen past achievements erode. And sometimes one is poised to ask how did it all begin? How did society come to the sorry levels it is now? Did it all come all at once or it was gradual?
In an attempt to give answers, one would realize that just like every other change, it all began slowly. It started with the people of Africa mixing up with other civilizations and cultures. And due to Inferiority complexes, they felt their own culture was less sophisticated and decided to embrace others' cultures.
Decadence in morals may be seen as something modern but it had dented the image of the youth a great deal. It is shocking to often see that youths that are male find interest in becoming a female and cross-dressing are becoming a norm. Others who as far as modifying their original features just to fit into a particular gender that they prefer other than that they were born.
Strange things too that were foreign to us are creeping into our lives. For instance homosexuality. It is absolutely strange but here we are today talking about it a good number of people in support of it. There are times it became so intense politically that Africans were threatened with aid seizure if they do not give in to homosexuality. But for moral brightness, men of honor stood their ground to reject such action that is never known to us.
So, what could be the way out of this dilemma we have found ourselves in as a society. Do we continue to condone all these acts? Or should we find our way back to the normal as we used to know? What we have come to find ourselves is alien to us. And the earlier we start to trace ourselves back to the ways that have brought prosperity and honor, the better would be our future.
Let me say congratulations on coming this far with us. And thank you for keeping it still until the end. See you in my next post. Bye-bye for now.
Morals are very important in life, but your assumption is correct because my area is also like other civilizations that no longer follow the culture that has been taught before, many young people are dragged into cases because they follow unusual ways from their hometown.
