Hello guys, its been long and am glad to be here once again. Have had so many issues to deal with that i actually find it hard creating time to here or in most cases i am just too tired to write.
My phone was stolen early this month which i had to go through series of stress just to retrieve my sim card back. These past events made me realize one of Nigeria's biggest problem, which is the fact that our Government make rules without actually making proper preparations.
Over the years am sure we have seen and heard our Government (The Nigerian Federal Government ) come up with so many laws, rules and regulations which in most cases do not make sense or are just out right crazy. The people view these laws like this because based on the actions of the government, they do not care about how such sudden changes Would affect the masses nor do they provide easy ways to help the people adapt to such changes. Examples of such could include the recent ban of cryptocurrency or the introduction of linking your National Identity number With your phone number.
I was at the MTN office trying to retrieve my sim card for over a week and the reason was that they had no network. They claimed that the new law placed by the Government requires that before they retrieve any sim card, it should be linked to your NIN (National Identity Number) which was facing serious network issues because apparently all network companies all over the country has to go through that one site, causing serious traffic. Based on this, i see many of our elders sitting on the floors, standing under the sun and even under the rain waiting for their turn. In most cases the network officials are able to attend to just three or four persons out of a crowd of over a hundreds. Customers are forced to risk their lives, living their houses as at 4:00AM just so they could be amoung the first 20 to go in.
The situation became worse with the fact that no one is allowed to sell sim cards within the country until further notice. It is quite understandable the reason for linking the NIN with our phone numbers, its indeed a good step to try stop fraud activities and to give the masses better protection against cyber crimes. I believe if proper arrangements and preparations are made, many would not have to suffer this much. I believe they might actually have the masses at heart in certain cases but their inability to provide proper preparations in other to ensure an easy has fueled the notion that the Government only wants to see the people suffer.
Times like this, before such laws come into power, the Government sould have made sure the NIN site goes through proper upgrade and more links should be created in other to reduce the work load and traffic on the portal. More staff should be set in various centers to ensure a quick and effective response to the people. Like in the MTN office warri headquarters, they only allow 30 persons to register for the NIN. And even those lucky 30 are not assured of going home satisfied with a job well done. Meanwhile in most case they can only attend to four or five persons per day who comes for sim upgrade or retriever because of network issues
