সৌন্দর্যের অপার লীলাভূমি বান্দরবান আর সেখানকার প্রকৃতির এক অনন্য সৃষ্টি বগালেক, দ্যা লেক অফ মিস্ত্রি বা ড্রাগন লেক নামে ও সুপরিচিত এটি। বগা লেকের আসল নাম বগাকাইন হ্রদ, যা স্থানীয় ভাবে বগা লেক নামে পরিচিত। বাংলাদেশের সর্বোচ্চ উচ্চতার স্বাদু পানির একটি হ্রদ এটি।
Bandarban is a land of immense beauty and is uniquely known as Baga lake, the lake of mistry or Dragon Lake. The original name of Boga Lake is Bagakain Lake, which is locally known as Boga Lake. It is the highest freshwater lake in Bangladesh.
কেওক্রাডং পর্বতের গা ঘেষে বান্দরবান শহর থেকে প্রায় ৭০ কিলোমিটার দূরে বগালেকের অবস্থান। সমুদ্রপৃষ্ঠ থেকে এর উচ্চতা প্রায় ১২৪৬ ফুট। আজ থেকে প্রায় দুই হাজার বছর আগে উৎপত্তি হয় বগা লেকের, এর উৎপত্তি নিয়ে প্রচলিত আছে বেশ কয়েকটি মিথ।
Baga lake is located about 60 km from Bandarban town on the slopes of Keokradong mountain. It is about 1248 feet above sea level. Boga Lake originated about two thousand years ago, and there are several myths about its origin.
এবার আসা যাক বগালেকের উৎপত্তি সম্পর্কে ভূতাত্বিকেরা কী বলছেন সে প্রসংগে। তাদের মতে, হয় মৃত আগ্নেয়গিরির জ্বালামুখ নয়তো মহাকাশ থেকে উল্কাপিন্ডের পতনের কারনে সৃষ্টি হয়েছে বগালেক। এর পানি অম্লধর্মী, কোন জলজ প্রানীর পক্ষে এখানে বেচে থাকা সম্ভব না। বাইরের কোন পানি এখানে ঢুকতে ও পারে না, আবার এর আশেপাশে পানির কোন দৃশ্যমান উৎস ও নেয়। কাজেই আশেপাশে পানির কোন উৎস না থাকলেও এই বিশাল জলরাশি কিভাবে সৃষ্টি হলো, তা এক বিরাট রহস্যই বটে। তবে তারচেয়েও বড় রহস্য হচ্ছে বগালেকের পানির রঙ পরিবর্তন। প্রতি বছর অদ্ভুত কোন এক কারনে বগা লেকের পানির রঙ কয়েকবার পাল্টায়। প্রতি বসন্তে লেকের পানি ঘোলা হয়ে যায় আর রঙ পরিবর্তন করতে থাকে।
Let us now turn to what geologists are saying about the origin of Bagalek. According to them, Bagalek was created either by a volcanic eruption of a dead volcano or by the fall of a meteorite from space. Its water is acidic, and no aquatic animal can survive here. No outside water can enter here, nor does it take any visible source of water around it. So even though there is no source of water in the vicinity, how this huge body of water came to be is a great mystery. But the bigger mystery is the change in the color of the water in Bagalek. Every year for some strange reason the color of the water in Boga Lake changes several times. Every spring the lake water becomes turbid and changes color.
