Lalakhal,which is another top tourist attraction in Jaintapur Upazilla,Sylhet, is covered with hills, natural forests, tea gardens, and rivers under the Jainta Hill which comprises part of the Meghalaya Ranges of India.
Lalakhal is located below Cherrapunji in India. The river originates from the Cherrapunji hills and flows through Bangladesh. Lalakhal is a wide canal located Sharee River near the Tamabil road.
The river is not much deep and it is one of the sources of sand in Sylhet. The focal point of the canal is water. The water has a variety of colors blue, green, clear water at different points.
A tourist can experience green water river, Range of mountain and Tea Garden- at once in Lalakhal.
How To Go There :
Tourists usually travel to Sarighat, which is 42 km away from Sylhet city centre, by road and then hire a boat to reach Lalakhal.
There is a boat station in Sarighat operated by Nazimgarh Resort. Different types of mechanised boats can be hired from there to travel to Lalakhal. It is also possible to go to Lalakhal by Micro Bus or Private car.
Suitable Time For Travelling :
Traveling from Sylhet to Lalakhal is a wonderful experience, especially during the rainy season. There is a Khasia mountain standing on the side of the road covered with dense greenery. Although the tourist gathering is more in winter, but the real beauty of the green mountains, clouds and waterfalls of this region can be enjoyed in the rainy season. The monsoon in Sylhet is usually long. As such, April to October is the best time to travel.
I visited there several times with my friends and last time I travelled there with my family . I shared some pictures of that place.
History About This Place
The tourist Ibn Battuta came to Bangladesh through this river. Although the word 'canal' is associated with the name of the place, but it is basically part of a river. The name of the river is Saree. Because, the water flowing from Cherrapunji hill is flowing through Lalakhal.
