Linus Torvalds, founder of Linux

Linus Torvalds was not so much interested in playing with others kids. Their home was the only place where he would spent his time. ‘I wasn’t exactly a boy to hang out with, to play. We had a huge five-story house. It's not as small as the current Silicon Valley apartment. ' This is what Linus said about childhood in an interview.

A boy who doesn't go out as a child may be self-centered. But Linus Torvalds has given many people in the world a great freedom. Freedom to use computer software. He is the creator of free software called Linux. But before that, let's understand what free software is.

Usually the software we use most at home or in the office is Microsoft's Windows operating system and MS Office. These are basically a paid service. We cannot change their programming code or sign language. The user's can't use it freely. Richard Stallman started the free software movement with the idea of being able to customize the software. Not only sound education but his alertness and dedication too are most required. Before that you need a free operating system (OS). Linus created such a free OS Linux . The current popularity of free software is just for Linux. Linux is primarily used to manage large computer networks, Internet service providers.Linux is also the best for all the complex tasks of a mobile phone provider. Linux-based operating systems like Ubuntu are also very popular for home or office use.

In 2012, Linus Torvalds was awarded the Millennium Technology Award by the Finland Academy of Technology, known as the Nobel Prize in Technology, for its advocacy of the free software movement. Linus has also been named three times in Time magazine's list of influential people.

Linus Benedict Torvalds was born on December 28, 1969, in Helsinki, Finland. Linus was son of a journalist couple Anna and Nils Torvalds. Linus is the younger son. Linus's grandfather, Ole Torvalds, was a poet. When Linus was very young, his parents separated. Linas moved to the United States from Helsinki in the 1990s.

Linus's parents named their son Linas after Linus Pauling, a US scientist who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. "I think my name comes from the name of the Nobel laureate, as well as from the peanuts cartoon and comic character," Linus said later. This is why Linus refers to himself as a half-Nobel laureate, half-cartoon character.

The first computer was Commodore VIC-20. Linus holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Helsinki, and later a master's degree in the same subject. However, his studies were interrupted in the first year of university. It was at this time that Linus joined the Finnish army. After returning to university, he created the Linux software, in 1991 at the age of just 21. Now he is the project coordinator for Linux. Received US citizenship in 2010.

Interesting. If I tell you that I don't like Linux at all, I'm not kidding. I love Windows and everything it represents. Do not judge me.
