Mythbusting Social Media Rumors: Bongbong Marcos Jr. Presidency Are Making PH Stocks Plummets.
The Philippine 2022 Presidential election has been concluded and Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has been unofficially announced to be next President of the Republic of the Philippines according to the final tally of votes. Marcos won with a massive 20 million(+) more winning votes against Vice President Leni Robredo.
It was a massive win for the side of Marcos but critics and haters of the party are once again in an attack to degrade and spread fake information against the soon-to-be President of the nation.
Even before the votes has been decided, false information once again circulates around social medias about how the performance of the Philippine Stocks are performing and reacting with Marcos leading in the tally.
It was all over in Twitter and Facebook that Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEI) are dropping and stocks are declining because of the threat that a new Marcos is about to take the presidential seat and assigning him will have a bad economic impact. People or the ones spreading false information are sharing charts and change of prices in the PH Stock market posting that stocks prices are about to have a massive dumps in price when Marcos will be declared as the Presidential election winner.
Stocks Are In Bearish Market And Other Markets As Well.
Stocks has been in a bear market for 2 years now. Not only in the Philippines but other countries too like US, Japan, Canada and etc.
The market such as DOW, bonds, crypto and stocks has been in a bearish trend since the first quarter of 2022.
Marcos' haters are using this kind of event to attack the President-elect by telling that investors in the Philippines are now pulling out their money without knowing what's the global market is facing.
The global market are facing economic crisis such as inflation rate hike, ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine and sanctions.
The way PSEI and PH stocks declines in price are normal reactions from the crisis and it doesn't have anything to do with the election in the Philippines.
Even the largest cap stocks in the US such as $TSLA, $APPL and $AMZN saw a massive decline in their price. Ph stocks is nothing special and it will eventually correlates with other and larger markets.
It was not because of the election why PH stocks are dropping, instead it was a reaction from the global economy and markets sentiment.
Investors Pulling Out Investments And Stocks Will Have More Downwards.
Fake information around social medias says that PH stocks are dropping in response to Marcos being in the lead of votes. People were showing the March 6, 2022 charts of PH stocks where the fact is that Philippine Stock Exchange trading were closed for 3 days (Saturday, Sunday and Monday).
PSE declared Monday as a holiday for the National election and will open again its market on May 10, 2022 at 9:30 AM.
With this, haters spread a FUD that if Marcos will be the winner and will be declared as the new President, stocks will drop so bad. Yes, there's a high chance but with a valid reasons;
1. Since stocks and other markets are in a bear trend, PH stocks will 99% follow the trend. Not election-related price movement but markets sentiment says PH stocks are about to drop more.
2. Investors might pull out money and be in the side way to secure their funds and avoid possible civil disturbance. Civil disturbance might occur as before the election, there were threats of people's rally if Vice President Leni Robredo will lose the election. And this disturbance can make a negative impact for the PH stock market, specifically for the the stock's prices.
Final Words.
The election has already been concluded and petitions to check what's happening during the election day and a possible recount from the opposing party were declind. Philippines is a democratic country and the majority votes for Bongbong Marcos Jr.
Everything is a risk and we will soon see how the new Marcos make the Philippine better especially about its economy. Few years from now, we will soon realize if it was worth putting another Marcos in the highest power or not.
