Who Are Anunnaki?

When you think about ancient cultures, what comes to mind? Maybe you'll think of the Romans. Perhaps Maya is popping into your brain. Perhaps you are speaking about Australia's Aboriginal people. Another great ancient civilization is today's Wonder of the Day — the Sumerians.

From 4100 B.C.E. until about 1750 B.C.E., the Sumerian civilization existed. The word "Sumer" meant "the land of civilized kings." One of the first groups to divide time into hours and minutes was the Sumerians. They also had a complex religion called the Anunnaki, which included gods.

The Anunnaki is considered to be in charge of the destiny of the Sumerians. Members of the Anunnaki passing judgement on humans were interested in many myths. In addition, as children of the Earth and the sky, the gods were identified. Most people chalk up mythology to these legends, the same way the Greek gods do. Others, however, wonder if there's more to the story.

The Anunnaki may have been human beings, some researchers say. One common hypothesis is that, from another world, they came to Earth. Some claim that they originated from the ancient Planet X, which they think passed thousands of years ago close to Earth.

Why would aliens come and pose as gods on Earth? To, of course, enslave the human race! Believers in this theory suggest the Sumerians were compelled to mine gold for them by the Anunnaki. Then, the Anunnaki returned to Planet X when they had what they wanted.

Some also go so far as to claim that the Anunnaki were a reptilian humanoid race. They think that these reptiles helped the Sumerians improve their writing and mathematics systems. In addition, they believe that reptiles are still around today and are wielding influence in the human world.
