Spending time together as a family has been one of our goals these days especially that my parents are already advance in their years and we have five kids in the house. Our family is growing and this time is just so stressful, hearing about the pandemic and the struggles of many. We have to be out for our mental health as well.

This is why whenever someone is celebrating a birthday, we would make it a goal to go out, look for a resort or a private place to spend a night, and have fellowship with the family. It's my sister-in-law's birthday on May first and although we planned to go camping in Loay, Bohol, we weren't able to book in advance as the date was already taken. We instead went for Bung Aw Eco Farm after several Bohol camping site choices.

I learned that there are actually many camping and even glamping sites in Bohol. I am glad they are already open and the rates here are quite lesser compared to that in Cebu so my husband and I are both planning out our year and the holidays in the upcoming months for the next getaway!

Bung Aw Eco Farm

Bung Aw Eco Farm is located in Bogtongod, Clarin, Bohol and its name was derived from the site's location, it sits on a cliff. "Bung Aw" is a Bisaya term that means cliff. It may sound a bit dangerous, but actually, the cliff isn't much of a problem as the camping area is huge and it is a distance from the cliff.

The farm offers a camping site, rest houses in bahay kubo style, a pool, an in-house restaurant, and a farm in one! Here are their listed inclusions and facilities for in-house guests:

-Swimming pool

-Parking Area

-Restaurant and Bar

-Bonfire Area

-Sunbeds

-Grilling Area (you must bring your own charcoal)

-Kids Play Ground

-Horseback riding ( P100 per round)

-ATV rides

-FREE WIFI for in-house guest only

For those who are walk-in customers, the entrance fee was only Php 50 for adults and Php 30 for kids below 8 years old above four years old, while kids below three are free of entrance and pool. The pool fee is Php 100 for adults and only Php 50 for kids.

The farm confirmed my booking request via Facebook messenger which I appreciated. Their customer service was very accommodating although our request was sent a night before we checked in.

The plan was to go to Loay, there's a camping site there which has a great view but since we were not able to book on time, I ended up almost calling off this out-of-town trip. Thankfully, the customer service of Bung-Aw Eco Farm was quick to reply and arrange my bookings. In fact, the booking was confirmed on the same day that we went to the resort.

Bahay Kubo Style Accommodation

As it was a fast booking transaction, I had no time to research how or what the accommodation looks like, I just booked it immediately because I was afraid I won't be accommodated but it turned out that they have many available bahay kubo rooms.

I know what a Bahay Kubo looks like and I thought that would be a cool experience. You are a Filipino if you know what Bahay Kubo is.

Upon arrival, a lady staff showed us toward our three bahay kubo houses. The house has two rooms, a living room, and a bathroom! I didn't imagine that there's a bathroom in this cute house. The upper room was actually air-conditioned while the underground room was a little scary as guests would have to crawl to get there. We ended up making use of the living room instead and brought the foams out. Some of us stayed together in the upper room altogether.

So each bahay kubo can accommodate four guests, we were 11 adults so we booked three houses. It is good that there's also a tent provided for us outside our houses and a table and some monoblock chairs were provided too.

Kitchen and Utensils

We arrived around three in the afternoon, thus, just right after settling down, our companions went to check the kitchen so they could prepare our food for the boodle fight set up that evening.

Prior to the booking, I already asked the customer service about the kitchen because we will need to cook and he or she confirmed that they have a kitchen and we can use it.

As a family who always books houses for overnight stays, we thought that there are already utensils available in the kitchen that we could use for cooking and as well as for our meals.

Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. The kitchen had almost nothing to be used. Our helpers were sad about it and reported back that we won't have anything for dinner! I was frustrated because since I was the one who booked this, I was to be blamed for not making things cleared.

In-house Restaurant

One of the things that I have learned with traveling is that we must not focus on the problem, instead, look into the ways to resolve the issue! My husband and I had been traveling for the past years and there are issues and problems that come our way, we had made it a point to be a part of the solution instead.

So as part of the solution, I went to the in-house restaurant. I talked to the in-charge staff, explained our side, and requested if we could use their kitchen instead. They disagreed but they offered to cook our food for us instead for a Php 250 service charge! Of course, that was a good deal and I agreed!

The restaurant has good food too! We only cooked for dinner and breakfast. Before going home, we had lunch there and the food served was all great most especially their bihon and turon!

Bung Aw Eco Farm Review

There are several issues while staying on the farm, the huge area made it hard for us to go to their restaurant and our houses when we order food at the restaurant, there's a Php 50 charge for delivering the food. They don't have an intercom so we could order from our house, we still have to walk up there.

The kitchen again is not usable thus, it is recommended that guests should bring their cooked food else, order from their restaurant. There are two pools, one for adults which was too deep, and the other one for kids, that's located beneath the infinity pool.

Staffs were helpful though especially those in the kitchen who had provided us with our needs, plates, spoons, etc. That staff also gave us the password for their wifi connection!

By the way, speaking of the wifi connection, I was glad they got really good internet! We were able to stay connected online wherever we are inside the farm!

I recommend the farm to those who are younger, who don't have kids, and seniors. If you have a family with babies and seniors, I suppose you might want to check another place instead.

Conclusion

I realized that going to camping sites is not the best option for us as a family. We have booked several houses before for exclusive usage so comparing the experience with a camping site, it is more convenient for us to be staying in an exclusive house instead because a camping site requires camping skills and this is very hard for those who have kids and babies and seniors.

I believe it will be our first and last time to go to a camping resort. Perhaps once the kids grow up, we can go camping again!

Good deal na din yung Php250 charge sa pagluto. Kaso naiimagine ko yung distance and hassle. Sana in the future magkaron sila kahit golf cart para hindi kawawa sa may mga babies and seniors.
