The Cebu Hive community had been significantly drawing more and more people to onboard into the cryptocurrency topic especially through the hive blockchain. Although I have been in the hive blockchain for four years, I was inconsistent for the past two years. I just came back to Hive early this year and I reconnected with the Cebu community just a few months ago.
I didn't realize that the community has grown already from just a few heads. There were several meetups done in the past and because of the pandemic, some aren't able to join the physical meetup and thus, the community heads through @ybañezkim and @indayclara, made efforts to do this via zoom meetings instead.
The recenlty concluded event was more of a meetup, it was named Beyond Blogging because it deals with more than just the blogging part of Hive. So, what happened during the online event? Let me share it with you.
The event started at 7:30 PM, most had already signed into the meeting, we were asked to change our virtual background but obviously, not everyone did it. The meeting started with some welcome remarks from Claire then it was followed by the game to break the ice between these hivers!
And oh, we had photo screenshot before the game started just in case we forget taking one.
The games were simple, we just have to answer certain questions posted by the game master. It took more than 30 minutes of our time, it was fun though, it even included some politics which most of us got wrong answers. Teehee!
Anyway, after the game was the introduction to Cryptocurrency and Blockchain headed by @thegaillery and @glecerioberto. This is for the sake of the newbies to crypto and blockchain.
They also illustrated the blocks made through the hive blockchain through hive block explorer which was very helpful for users to visualize how that worked. It took more or less an hour to finish including the question and answer, Cebu hivers were very cooperative.
Some questions were:
What are Witnesses?
What are the ways of mining on Hive?
The difference between Steemit and Hive
These questions were just some of those to which I was able to listen to. Having a baby was quite challenging because I have to attend to his needs while also listening to the talk.
Next was the Basics of Trading by @themanualbot. I have known this guy since I started blogging in Steemit. He was with @jassenessaj and they also were the first ones to spread the news about Steemit. He is not very active in blogging and had just dived into the trading part of cryptocurrencies instead but he is still friends with most of the Hive Cebu people so he was asked to talk about the basics of trading, how to navigate on Binance, and more.
Surely, we learned so many things about trading from Roger, we also had another set of question and answer and he even dived into the world of sh*tcoins too! There were many opinions coming from the other speakers too.
We had to note that these people are not really experts but through the number of months and years that they have been exposed to this, they provided information based on their success in the trading aspect. I am super encouraged and inspired.
Finally, our last topic was about NFT or nun-fungible tokens. This is the topic that I have been meaning to understand. Catherine Porter introduced us to it being part of curate.style, she was able to introduce us to the website and their token. She explained some details in a very simple way. Let me share some with you.
So NFTs are unique, can't be split, can't be duplicated. Minting means putting data in the blockchain, ownership is verifiable, traceable, a transfer is instantaneous and smooth.
Why is NFT valuable?
It is first
Utility
Rarity
ownership history
NFTs are also the future for decentralized finance. There are many tools for making NFT, this was discussed together with the process of minting our own NFTs. One well-known site is opensea.io but the fees are huge in this site so we were referred to curate.style and I will have to mention that with this one, gasless NFT and p2p marketplace is possible, minting is also free!
I will try the site soon and update you about the experience!
The last part of the event was announcing the winners and a closing remark.
There were a total of 33 participants during this event and it was a success! I appreciate the efforts of everyone who had made this possible!
If you are interested in joining hive, let me know and I help you get started!
xoxo,
