Nature is such a blessing, it gives and gives. It is a source of food, a source of oxygen but it is also a venue where we could reconnect to our inner selves, a place where our minds are at peace. It can even be a place of relaxation and a playground!
Have you tried going out to someplace these past few days or weeks? Or have you been staying at home all time? This pandemic had crippled us, it kept us inside our walls. It is a requirement to stay in our houses especially those who live in the urban areas. While the same is rule is imposed in rural places like ours, it is an option to be out.
Having babies and kids in the house, it is our duty as their guardians to get them moving. I have seen these kids just wake up, eat, play on their gadgets and sit all day! I don't know what will happen in the next months or so if they continue to live like that.
I thought of getting them to the beach because that's what they love. They all exclaimed of their excitement and the adults too love to go out already. Swimming and going to the beach are what we did for two weeks. It was good! But it was challenging to find a beach with zero people, we can't risk being socializing these days so I thought we should instead go to the mountains!
Cabantian Hills is the perfect place to be! It is just in the neighboring barangay, it is safe and it has an amazing view. Our plan was just to go there without bringing anything but we decided to have a dry picnic instead because kids are hyperactive, we know they'll easily get hungry!
Featuring Cabantian Hills
There's a hill that offers a 360-degree view of Guindulman town's beauty. But it was closed unfortunately for some renovations and construction going on. We don't want to go back and since we were already in the vicinity, we instead looked for a random spot.
Opposite to where we parked, we saw some access to a hill and thus, we decided to check out the view from that hill. It's just right across and the hill isn't that high so climbing up was not a big deal.
We got senior citizens and young kids with us, we all found climbing it easy. In fact, it was not climbing, it was merely walking to the top of the hill. We spotted random black rocks and I wondered how these rocks were nicely planted on this hill specifically that huge one that was a good spot for picture taking.
Although I understand the need for tourism, I am sad that in the actual Cabantian Hill tourist spot, they had to riprap and develop the mountain. The hill is now privately owned, they had made a farm in the bottom of it while the top has been developed to cater to the visitors and guests as it has the best view of all the hills here. They had placed waiting sheds and benches and there's a path going up to the hill.
There are actually resident houses around the vicinity. But they are just a few that we could count them on by hand. On our way here, we also spotted some volleyball court where some locals were playing thus giving us an impression that there's a community here and that these mountains might even be owned by these people around.
The sunset view from here was also very beautiful! Our skin became golden as the sun slowly melted down behind the mountains. It's pure happiness!
Dry Picnic at Cabantian Hills
We brought picnic mats with us so we decided to eat first although we had already appreciated the view and even took pictures along the way. The air breeze was nice and refreshing. There were wild guavas around and we took some fruits and ate them on the spot! This reminded me of my childhood. Back in the days, we could just go out to our neighborhood, pick some guavas or any fruit that's in season such as caimito or star apple, atis, mango, and so on. It was pure bliss!
After eating, we played with the kids! It was fun seeing these kids run! We got to have these energetic kids out of their gadgets and I guess it was working! They went from one stone to another, they imagined themselves on a boat and the boat was sinking that they had to stand on top of the stone to be saved! They also did some extortionist moves like how we did back when I was younger.
Then James flew the drone so we could get a glimpse of how the view looked like from above. This birds-eye view perspective is really beautiful! We spotted some rice fields on the right, the hills on our back, and the horizon made this visit so much worth it. We even laughed because the day before we went here, we were on a beach and I pointed to the location of that beach from where we were. The kids were in awe knowing that we could see from it from here. It would have been better if we had binoculars with us which can enable us to see the beach from a far.
How to Get to Cabantian Hills
From our place, it is just a 10-15 minutes drive. But if you are coming from Tagbilaran City or outside Bohol province you may take a bus or van, any public vehicle going to the town of Guindulman and stop by Cabantian Elementary School.
From there, you may take a habal-habal ride to Cabantian Hills, its just around five minutes from the highway.
If you bring your car, it is much better, just follow Google Maps!
Today, the roads are under construction which is good. We know that in a few months, there will be expected visitors coming here so we believe that's the reason why the roads were being cemented. Cabantian Hills is already making a buzz on social media so soon, more and more people will be visiting here.
I noticed that these days, more and more mountain resorts and tourist spots are being opened in our town. There are two which have already been well known but I have not personally visited yet, I hope we can do that soon too!
We are glad that we were able to witness its raw beauty of Cabantian Hills although not from the main actual hill. This is of course a good reason to go back and visit it again. Anyway, it is just a neighboring hill and we will see its progress once it has officially finished its construction.

Love harder than any pain you've ever felt.
I was able to visit Bohol only once. That was more than 10 years ago. Lovely place. But I haven't gone to this hill.
