Location:
Chittagong Hill Tracts consists of 3 districts of Chittagong Division namely Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban districts. It is preceded by Myanmar, India to the north and the Bay of Bengal to the south. The area of Chittagong Hill Tracts is 13 thousand 295 square kilometers or 5 thousand 130 square miles.
Historical context:
Another name of Chittagong Hill Tracts is Jammu Land. Until 180 it was known as 'Karpesh Mahal'. The British then annexed it to Bengal for the convenience of rule. In 1974, the Bangladesh government divided the hill districts into three separate districts. At present these three districts are enjoying the status of semi-autonomous government.

Bandarban district has an area of 4,489 sq km. Matamuhuri, conch, rankhiang are the main rivers of Bandarban. Notable places of interest in Bandarban are Bomangaraja's house, Bandarban hill area, Rizuk waterfall, Baktai and Pukurpara springs, Vijay, Keo Kradong and Chimbuk hills. Rangamati District:
Rangamati district is bounded on the north by Khagrachhari, on the south by Bandarban, on the east by the Indian state of Mizoram and on the west by Chittagong district. Area 6 thousand 116 square kilometers. Rangamati district consists of 10 upazilas. Karnafuli conch, Shashalong is a significant river in Rangamati district. Notable places of interest in Rangamati are Green Hills, Chakma King's House, Hanging Bridge, Crooked Mountain Lake, Kaptai Power Station, Hardboard Mill, Chandraghona Paper Mill, Lakes, Springs and Forests. The distance from Dhaka to Rangamati district is 326 kilometers.
Khagrachhari District:
Khagrachhari district is bounded on the north by the Indian state of Tripura, on the south by Chittagong and Rangamati, on the east by Tripura, India, and on the west by Chittagong and India.
