Scarcity
Another word for scarcity is rare or hard to find. I know that the word isn't new to most of us and it is definitely not alien. Most of the time when we use the word scarcity it means that there is a shortage of a particular commodity. Probably a valuable one. Something that is considered a necessity and a must have.
This morning when I was going out I noticed the long queues of vehicles at petrol stations all over the city. It means that there is an impending fuel scarcity. The sight of this many vehicles at a petrol station doesn't bode good news. Numerous cars queuing on a line just to buy fuel for their cars and generators. Petrol attendants overwhelmed by the sheer number of people coming to buy PMS. Totally and complete mayhem.
It is during the fuel scarcity that you see the ugly and butter sight of people. Certain people that you thought were your friends, who couldn't betray you for a million dollars will stab you in the back for a litre of fuel. What am I even saying, they will betray you for a drop of petrol. In my country the only liquid that is as important as water is petrol and as a developing country it is very much in high demand.
People need it in their daily lives. They need it to run their businesses, factories, schools and homes. In a country where erratic power supply is the order of the day everyone has a generator and we need fuel in order to turn it on. I am living in the city and energy is very important in everyone's life. We need to charge our phones, laptops and other gadgets. If you are running a business you need it for light, air conditioning and other office activities.
If you want to make coffee you need electricity in order to use the kettle to boil water. Energy is now a necessity in the world that we're living in. No business can be successful without steady supply of electricity. It is one of the things that make companies survive or fold up. It can make or mar a business and it can also bring to life or kill a business idea.
This fuel scarcity just shows how much the government has failed the people. If there was stable electricity supply there wouldn't be need for people to buy petrol in order to fuel their generators. No more selling of fuel into Jerry cans and kegs. I am sure that when there is light people the queues will reduce because those people that are using generator won't have any reason to buy petrol unless they want to burn waste
Let's look towards green energy such as solar. It's time we stop depending on fossil fuels for our source of energy. The world is moving forward let us join them and stop going backward.
The world is advancing but Nigeria isn't. They are focusing too much on oil because that's their major source of revenue. They increase the prices at will just to milk us dry. I detest fuel scarcity. It's super annoying wasting your productive day on a queue that should have been avoided.
