Winter Traditional dish "Saag" in Pakistan

"Saag" is a famous dish in the winter season eaten by the people of the sub-continent.

Brief History

Mustard plants called "Sarsoon" are cultivated in Pakistan during the winter as feed for animals. Mustard seeds are used to get oil and oil cakes also. Mustered oil was also used for cooking and considered very healthy and light. Mustard oil cakes are used as feed for animals like cows and buffalo which helps to yield more healthy and tasty milk.

How cooked?

A very small and delicate leaf along with a small stem is used to make "Saag".

Then; it is cut into very small pieces and cooked in water with necessary spices according to the taste of People. When boiled and become softened then added pure butter into it to enhance the taste which becomes very tasty. Pakistani people particularly villagers cooked it and served it as a gift to the urban people as "sooghat".

It is most likely to eat with "paratha and Makai Rooti" which certainly increased its taste.

This vegetable is available only for a very short period from mid-November to January. "Saag" is a very tasty, delicious famous, and traditional food that is eaten in Pakistan, particularly by the people of Punjab.
