The story of Genie

Genie Wiley is a girl who was subjected to severe abuse and isolation for years. The dad thought he has had much of this social world and wanted to hide her Genie from the society due to a car accident on the Grandmother .Also her Father determined she was mentally retarded and locked her up in one of the family’s bedrooms where she spent her entire childhood.Because he believed Genie was severely retarded he thought she needed him to protect her even further, and therefore chose to hide her existence. Giving birth to Genie was a nightmare to her dad because he hated loud noise and bring in a baby meant it.

When she was 20 months old, her father began keeping her in a locked room. During this period, he tied her into a child's toilet or with her arms and legs immobilized.

Her isolation prevented her from being exposed to any significant amount of speech, and she did not acquire language during her childhood as a result.

Her Dad didn't allow anyone to talk or interact with her, provided her with almost no stimulation of any kind, and left her severely malnourished.

When she was 13 years old she was discovered. She couldn't walk normally because that was the first time she was walking.

Upon determining that Genie had not yet learned language, linguists saw Genie as providing an opportunity to gain further insight into the processes controlling language acquisition skills and to test theories and hypotheses identifying critical periods during which humans learn to understand and use language.Later, her mother stopped all researches being conducted on her.

Her present location is unknown. Because of societal rejection someone or a group of people showed her dad, her dad subjected her to isolation thinking that how to hide from society.

We should watch how we deal with people to make sure that our decision won't change their mentality as it happened in Genie's father's situation.
