I work on upwork, I have been working on upwork for two years. In my opinion, if you want to make money online and if you do not want to invest money to make money, you should definitely try upwork. As far s the requirement for upwork is concerned, yes, of course, you need to be highly professional. However, I will ask you one basic question, tell him where can you work and earn a lot of money without having professional skills. Can you work as a teacher in a school when you are not educated, can you work as an office assistant if you are not graduated. If you do not have skills why not enroll in courses and develop professional skills, all you need is 6 weeks to learn any skill you want, once you have skills you can apply for higher-paying jobs. Even as a writer you will earn more if you are an SEO writer instead of a general writer. You should not be afraid of acquiring skills. If you are unable to acquire skills because of a lack of funds, you can try learning skills from the sites where you don't need any money to join a course.

If you want to increase the chance of getting a job, you need to enroll in courses that pay good money, you need to develop skills that are in high demand. You also need good grades because no company is willing to hire someone who has C or D on his certificates.

Udemy

Want to learn a skill but confused about where you should enroll?

Udemy is the first choice for a lot of people to learn skills and build knowledge from short-term courses. However, you need to understand one thing about Udemy. It is a user-generated content site, the courses on udemy are created by common users and these courses may not be the best. Therefore, you will have to find courses created by experts. I recommend you join SEO course created by SEO companies or marketing agencies. For example, you can join a marketing company called hubspot. They have a lot of courses on SEO and marketing. If you want a free learning platform, you can join Alison.

Skillshare

I have registered on Skillshare but I have not subscribed to Skillshare therefore, I have not attended any courses. There are of course few free courses, however, I am not interested in most of the free courses offered by Skillshare. That's because most of the free courses are either sample courses or useless courses. If you have time to learn, subscribing to Skillshare can be highly beneficial because instead of paying for each course, you will have access to all courses on the platform. For example, by paying $19 you can enroll in a lot of courses and build your knowledge and skills. However, on Udemy, you might have to pay $20 just for one course or the maximum number of courses you can buy for $20 is 2 (you can enroll in a course for $10 during the promotional events). If you subscribe to an annual plan, Skillshare will be a very cheap learning platform. However, if you subscribe to an annual plan and do not have time to attend your courses, it will be a waste of your money. However, on Udemy if you buy a course you can attend the course any time and you will have access to the course for a lifetime.

Coursera

I know Coursera even though I have never tried any courses on Coursera. If you want to build your career, you need to attend various courses to enhance your knowledge and skills, or even learn new skills and build new knowledge, and the platforms like Coursera come in very handy. If you search online you will find a lot of learning platforms like Coursera. Some learning platforms feature user-created courses, whereas some learning platforms provide courses created by experts and leaders in the industry. Coursera courses are created by professionals and universities, therefore, these courses are more valuable than user-created courses on platforms like Udemy. While you might find more courses on Udemy and also courses for a cheaper price, these courses might not add value to your resume, however, Coursera courses are valued because these courses are created by universities and professionals. You can surely develop skills and knowledge by attending Udemy courses, but by mentioning Udemy on your resume, you may not be able to impress your potential employer, however, Coursera courses might impress your employer. Attending a course is not all about developing skills and knowledge, it is also about getting recognition. If you want to start online learning, I highly recommend Courser.

You highlighted a very important point about Udemy. But, I believe many freelancing sites don't care about where you acquired your skill, as long as you can deliver good results, you are good. Thank you Miika.

For me, it doesn't matter if I pay time and money as long as I can have my dream skills. It's good to enroll some trusted sites and institution for your goal is to hone your preferable skills. After you honed skill you'll be able to compete with others.
