Decorations on my life
Decorations bring life to any mundane space. Throughout my life, decorations have filled my home, school, and workspace with color, life, and energy. They represent who I am and the stories I want to tell others about what matters to me. Decorations have become a part of my life, from the framed family photos on the mantelpiece to the plants lining the windowsills.
The first decorations I remember were those that hung on the walls of my childhood home. I remember thinking that the bright colors were enchanting and filled the whole house with warmth. The painting above the fireplace that I chose for my nursery as a baby, the string of stars in my bedroom, and the multicolored wall mounted glass birds in the hallway filled my home with unique details that invited joy and smiles. Every piece was chosen to help bring life and energy to my home—hallmarks of a place where I was safe and loved.
As I moved away to university, my decorations shifted to help me feel safe and secure away from home. I added bright desk lamps, colorful scatter cushions made of fabric, and motivational posters. I framed pictures of my family to remind me of home and of their love, while also filling my walls with inspiring artwork and words to give me strength and motivation.
When I moved into my first post university apartment, I had the chance to really make it my own. My walls were covered with paintings that I’d collected from art shows, and my bedroom featured a bright rug and oversized houseplant that conveyed my personality and unique tastes. On my bedside table, I displayed a white ceramic owl next to my favorite photographs. Every piece brought happiness and complemented my home in a unique way.
Decorations also bring life to my workspace. While I once thought a workspace was always best kept bare, I now recognize that my own decorations give it a warmth that can encourage creativity and productivity. On my desk, I keep framed family photos and inspiring quotes that help me stay focused on my goals. I have a bright artificial bouquet that always brings a smile to my face, and I place my favorite books on the shelves next to my work to give me something to retreat to between tasks.
In conclusion, decorations have been an integral part of my life. They bring joy and make my home, university, and workspace a more enjoyable place. The decorations I choose embolden my identity and help me express who I am. They are my source of joy and happiness—perfectly imperfect reminders of the life I am proud to have built.
