A Micro Adventure That Was a Great Trip
👋 Today I was commenting on my social media that my life is amazing because so many things happen to me that only happen to me. I don't know if I've told you that I've had such unusual things happen to me, like getting locked in my home bathroom without any tools to get out. 😱 For those who don't know, I live alone and the bathroom in the apartment where I reside is very isolated and has a small window that I can't get out of. Also, I'm on a very high floor, so getting out that way is not an option. On that occasion, I had to use all my ingenuity to get out, but that's a story I'll tell another time.
What I want to point out is that my life has been very amazing, very bizarre, and today one of those bizarre things happened to me. For those who don't know, my monitor broke a long time ago and a friend of mine named Robert, who is a computer technician and equipment repairman like me, did me the huge favor of giving me a monitor that had been given to him in a batch of repairs he did for a company. It's an HP 1740 LCD monitor with no base. It's not a big deal, but it had a problem: you had to press the power button for a long time for it to work. In the last few days, I was counting the number of times I pressed the on and off button on my monitor and the count exceeded 500 times. I had to press the button more than 500 times until the monitor gave me a video signal so I could start working.
Yesterday it took me two and a half hours, about 1500 times, I had to press the on and off button for the monitor to give me a signal. Today when I woke up, practically the same thing happened to me. I spent about two hours pressing the button, but today the monitor didn't want to respond. Worried, I called my friend, but there was a problem: where he lives there was no elevator and he couldn't leave his house because he lives on a high floor. However, my friend made the sacrifice to come down because it was me, because I am his friend. On several occasions, I have given him equipment and helped him. We have that camaraderie among friends. Suddenly, he needs equipment like today he needed a piece for a laptop and I gave it to him at no cost.
My friend took the monitor and shortly after taking it, about 40 minutes, he called me and gave me the surprise to come down because the monitor was already fixed. It turns out that my friend had a card for this type of monitor, a new card that he had bought. He replaced the card because when he checked my monitor here at home, he saw that it had some swollen capacitors. This is not due to the misuse that I give to the equipment, because I am someone who takes great care of these technological artifacts, but because of the country we live in where we suffer constant power surges. These sudden increases in electricity were what damaged not one, not two, but three capacitors in my monitor, causing it to break. It's a problem that because of living here in Venezuela and because of these damn and lazy electrical faults, because of the bad inheritance of the people in charge in power, a citizen suffers these vicissitudes and all these problems.
Fortunately, I can say that all of this was a great journey today. It really was, because this was a surprising day for me. My day today really starts at 5 pm because now at 5 pm I can start doing the content and activities that I generally dedicate myself to doing from early morning or much earlier.
That's what I wanted to tell you about my amazing world today. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed this micro-adventure that was a great journey. 🌎✨
